We'll see for how long till iPads start getting serious third party support. There is a reason why the new iPad has a quad core GPU :)

Its not ever going to get serious third party support.......at least if the ipad 2 is anything to go by.

but now they can make games for a device which will have a much bigger userbase and they could make games for ipad 2 which would be interesting for ipad 2 and 3 users. and when ipad 4 will come out they can make games which run on ipad 3 and 4 this will be a huge userbase. a game like infinity blade sold very very good and that was released at a time when iphone was a joke against iphone nowadays saleswise. same with ipad.

i believe infinity blade made 25 million until last year. a game like infinity blade released nowadays could make 100 million on iphone and ipad and there is only the 30% you have to give apple.

Is that Photoshopped?

That ad proves but one thing, When you game on real dedicated devices with the quality of games and controls, you dont want to do the casual 5 minute game stuff
That ad proved nothing I said wrong

"But I agree with Kowen, it's damaging the portable market big time, imo.'

Again there is no evidence of this at all. All we can see is the vita, 3ds, ds, psp selling well right now..........sales are not 0

The ad proves Sony sees them as competitors.

And they should. Outside Japan, the market is very slow and boring for portables, both in hardware and especially software. But I don't want to go deeper into this, it's just how I see things at the moment.

A good company will see everyone as a competitor

As the great reggie said when he was asked this question and I quote

" yeah apple is a competitor.......so is a book, a newspaper, food. Anything that has the potential to take money is a competitor"

But that doesnt mean they are afraid...........

Again that isnt true, portables do very very well outside japan. The psp sold more outside japan............worldwide the 3ds is number 1. You dont get to be number 1 worldwide, if your first in japan, and last everywhere else. It doesnt work that way

You make some interesting points but we really dont know how big or small the user base for gaming is.........

Dont get me started on infinity blade, that piece of garbage sold on name and graphics alone, not gameplay............

downloaded 25 million times is very different than selling that much.............

And epic seems to be the only one supporting it........ with you know 1 new iteration every new hardware refresh which is bad for gaming

will be big...

still worth buying... expect $1000 per share at some point in the next couple of years.

hell no.

Actually I am long put on this one. Gigantic bubble building up. Just a matter of time till it bursts. Could be next year or later. No way it is on the way to more than double the market cap of ExxonMobil (Think about it, one with a extraction of 840 million barrel oil per year, which is 20% of the imported oil by the USA) , the other one building smartphones). It is 2000 all over again. Especially with 3 successful products on the market. The iPhone still makes 50% of the whole revenue of Apple. It still is a cell phone in a very volatile market. Look how fast Blackberry dropped, look how fast Android went up, look how fast Samsung became the biggest manufacturer for cell phones.

So far the shares are driven by the thought that Apple will innovate the next big thing as well. If Google, Microsoft, Samsung or any other company in this industry does, Apple shares will go down rapidly.

But that is the beauty of investment: You never know, so you assume. And assumption is mother of all fuck ups.

we'll see

I see the iphone 5, ipad4 and iTV pushing big big big numbers.

China is suddenly getting into the iphone thing... its all uphill from here, mark my words.

Buy Samsung, Apple and MS.

iPad and iPhone will continue to be successful for the next 2 years at least, no doubt about it. I wait for the moment people get their expectations right. Some actually think Apple will be as dominant for hardware as MS is for OS / office software and Google is for search. This is not going to happen.

iTV will be the first step down. The success of Apple is built on portable products. Look at Apple TV, selling for $99 and not doing well at all. And an iTV will erase a very big part of Apple fans (teenagers) who can't afford to spend 2000 Euros for a new TV - and I doubt Apple will go the LG route to get a competitive pricing.

What are your thoughts on Google?

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

I want to be clear though. I am not saying ios sucks, or anything like that, I dont hate. I am just saying there success will not be a detriment to anyone else. Theres a pie big enough for everyone.

I am glad ios has succeeded, alot of great japanese rpgs on it exclusively for me to play

I don't think its shopped. There was one outside my work, and I think it was exactly that and I remember thinking to myself "seriously sony?"

I could never understand the appeal of Apple products, other than looking slightly better aesthetically, you can buy something just as good for half the price. Other than an old Nano and classic, I really don't like their iphones or ipads much.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

Well, but Nintendo will never make an Ad saying "you should never read a book again". And the software part to me is the most worrisome, more than hardware.

But, like I said, let's end this here... I'm a bit undecided about the future of portables. I just think this massive sucess of Apple generates pretty big ripples everywhere.

no not downloaded 25 million times, it made 25 million dollars until last year. no clue where it stands now. so epic got ~18 million dollars for the infinity blade sales until last year with a much smaller userbase and sales won't stop we know how the digital games sales don't drop like retail games.

and i don't say it is a good game, that's why i wrote before that i am not sure if people won't buy handhelds anymore because of the much better controlls as example and that i see some people buying a handhelds because they started to care about caming when they played some games on their iphone.

Portable software makes profit

The psp is 7 years old and companies are still localizing

do you think they would if they didnt have profit projected?
