Forums - Gaming Discussion - Popular Mac website claims sources confirm Apples entry into console industry! (Update discredited )

Would Apple be smart to enter the console industry?

Wait so this is a console that only works with the Apple TV?
Or is the TV itself the console?

Either way it won't succeed since it will easily retail for about $1k. It's no threat to the big 3. Nintendo especially has nothing to worry about. Sony could integrate PS4 into their TVs if this Apple/Valve Tv/Console really took off.

So an iPad connected to a TV with Steam?

God, I don't want any more contenders in this race, especially Apple.

There's no room for this.... Sega quit for a reason.

Apple should just make games, 3rd party if they want to get into gaming... Like Sega does now.... I can't see myself with no more than 2 next gen consoles... and, PS4 has one of those spots locked already, and the other is reserved for nintendo, or microsoft.

I don't know, though...

Apple is just one of those products everyone owns... There's a reason I don't have an iPhone, or an iPod. Honestly, though, that is my only reason, they don't seem to make terrible products... It's just, too many people owning them for my tastes.  That may seem backwards to ome of you, but, I'm not the one to fall to peer pressure.

I'm not taking a puff from your dirty cigs, and I don't want a sip of your beer.

Now, if close to no one buys it, but, at the same time, it's something i deem favorable, then, I'll consider it with PS4.

I'm the exact same. I don't HATE apple products or anything, they just don't interest me especially because everyone has them and It's like "Yeah iphone/pod/Pads just bore me as everyone has them and seen them thousands of times already". I enjoy owning things that are more unique. Take clothes for example, I HATE seeing people wear clothes that I wear, as I like to stand out, not fade away into the blurry crowd.....

Apple has a smart TV's coming this winter. The smart TV is going to be like an i-pad and according to this leak it will come bundled with the game console. Now I can't see the game console being built into the TV, if that is the case Apple won't have a chance in hell of taking over the living room, Apples competitors would crush it. However if the system is simply bundled and is available stand alone like WiiU, NextBox and PS4 but is compatible with Apples smart TV's then we might have a problem. Built in the TV will be a 1,300$ device just for a 32-inch I mean that would be a seriously expensive piece of technology even without Apples usually upsell!

The issue isn't that Apple should make games, it's that Apple would have to make games if they wanted to make a console. Just as Nintendo's efforts at providing "services" are often half-baked or worse because Nintendo is not a service provider, Apple similarly is not a game-maker. Unless they bought Valve outright, or another game maker to do the work for them. Microsoft had a solid framework for really building a software-publishing-and-development group to help push and differentiate the Xbox, but does Apple have that framework in place?

Says end of this year. We won't have to wait long to see if there's any truth to this.

I doubt apple will enter the console industry, but they may try to give apps controller support, and enable them to easily be played on a TV. They wont develop their own console though, because it would be too expensive like other Apple products, and people care about price the most when choosing a console.
