Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nokia's share prices took a dive today

Nokia is unable to give an accurate forecast of its earnings and bc it failed at this, and had to revise said forecast negatively, it's shares fell by 18% today.

Wow. Hopefully it can turn around with windows phones. I always thought they were OK at making more expensive phones, but their killer market was the sub £50 ($80) market. Build quality/UI second to none even still. Trouble is, there is no money, really, in very cheap phones :(

And they are giving away free Lumias for At&T customers :)) My god, how could Nokia fall so hard? Why not go Android, like everyone else did, and save themselves? No, they went WP7, and now they are drowning in their worst decision ever. Dont get me wrong, Im not bashing the OS, its good, its slick, and its fast, but it will never have the marketshare of Android or iOS...

Supposedly, they were paid a very hefty amount of money to go WP7.

Its more than not being able to give an accurate forcast, they are now citing weakness in their bread and butter business and thats selling low end phones in underdeveloped markets like india and china.  If they are getting beat out there (and they are) then this company honestly has no hope.  The sad thing is at one point this company used to be the biggest in Europe and one of the largest companies in the world, they were not able to change with the times.

Your streak of constantly being wrong when you post keeps on going...

Their shares fell because emerging markets did not buy Symbian and dumb phones as much as Nokia anticipated. Lumia and Windows phones are exceeding expectations and have sold over 2 million devices in the last 3 months.

I think that I'm talking with somebody that's as dense as mud here.  You realize that msfts fees won't contradict any reason you are giving behind nokia's woes correct? Do you even realize that nokia's margins are going to be squeezed by this fee? Finally, are you still looking forward to owning a phone from a failure of a company? I know that you are a WP7 fan, just seeing what your plans are

When all is said and done, Microsoft pays Nokia 250,000,000 dollars every quarter to make windows phones. Nokia pays microsoft 0 dollars to make windows phones.

I don't even know why I even bother replying to you since your knowledge on this matter is severly lacking.

You realize that as of December 2011, Nokia has 12 billion dollars of cash in the bank. They could lose money like they are now for 10 years and still remain afloat as a company. So yeah, as a Nokia Windows Phone owner, I will be just fine in the near future.

Why don't you go check how Android mobile divisions for OEMs like Sony Ericson, LG and Motorolla are doing cash wise lately. They are even bigger failures than Nokia.

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Microsoft-Nokia-Windows-Phone-7-Deal-Partnership-money,14564.html

"Our broad strategic agreement with Microsoft includes platform support payments from Microsoft to us as well as software royalty payments from us to Microsoft," Nokia said in its results. "We have a competitive software royalty structure, which includes minimum software royalty commitments."

"According to Nokia's Q4 results, which were released this week, Microsoft paid Nokia $250 million to use Windows Phone 7. Described by Nokia as a "platform support payment," this isn't a one time thing. According to SlashGear's Chris Davies, who was first to pick up on the figure, there will be more payments made by Microsoft. The eventual figure is thought to be more than one billion dollars."
