Forums - PC Discussion - Mike Capps: Epic Games has a PC-exclusive game in the works

Why would it be free to play though?

Because F2P is the new hotness in video game business models, everyone and their dog is making F2P PC games these days, as they keep making money for years. And it's not free to play why make it a PC exclusive? Unless they are making a full on Unreal style twitch shooter or an hardcore RTS or something it would be multiplatform.

If I had to guess its because of piracy. It's no secret that AAA PC games get millions of illegal downloads.

I must say, as I recently bought a decent laptop, PC gaming is fantastic. The sheer amount of content is overwhelming. Steam and Amazon are constantly selling games for super cheap, I just got Metro 2033, Darkness 2, Serious Sam 3 for $29. I haven't had to pay full price for a single game, I even got Skyrim for$39 the week it came out. For me, moving on from the consoles, until next-gen, has been a great decision. And as a gamer, being able to play games at 1080p and 60fps is utopia. Especially compared to the sub 30fps slog and (sometimes) 720p experience that consoles offer.

My point is, Epic developing a PC exclusive title is awesome news.

How bit is your laptop? 15-20 inches? Yeah....not truly HD. Does the resolution even go up to 1080p? It shouldn't since you won't notice a difference between 720p in a screen that small.

My laptop is plugged into my 46" Samsung LED, via HDMI, yes I know, laptops actually have HDMI outputs, technology is crazy. And I bought this rather inexpensive laptop for the singular purpose of using it as a gaming console/enteratinment center. So, any other ill-informed statements you would like to make or would you just prefer to ask me a sensible question?

Some examples of the kind of money we are talking with F2P games

World of Tanks monthly revs hitting "double digit" millions

all these games are F2P

Hmm, interesting to see what they're doing next to Fortnite.

If it's a real exclusive UT game, and a good one at that... YOU'RE ALL GONNA GET WHOOPED!

Epic, here's the problem; most PC gamers have stopped caring about you and your games a long time ago...

They will then blame piracy on poor sales. I am calling it right here, right now.

Feelings (caring) are irrelevant. If they produce a good game it will sell, end of argument.

If a developer has estranged themselves on a platform, that is hardly irrelevant.

haha yeah love this '15-20" you won't see a difference' talking... you just need a $5 hdmi cable to play on your tv and even if not how does he know how much you sit away of the laptop when gaming...

i know someone with a 60" or something like that tv saying to everyone how huge his tv is but he's sitting so much away of the tv it looks smaller than 46-50" tvs in other peoples livingrooms. he could brag with his great livingroom which is awesome but his tv doesn't look big in that room.

@topic

sounds good i hope it will look awesome! epic is only a small team right? does this mean next console game will take longer than thought?
