oh, the PC sales... ok

'What about consoles too'

'We're good with them, too. '

Given the fact that Alan Wake wasn't the most expensive game in the world to create & it's cleared 1M copies (not including DLC purchases and DD purchases of the game) that's not very suprising.

But that's a good thing, I'm glad this game worked out for them in the end (on both platforms)!

Didnt the game take 5 years to make??That is alot of money for wages dont you think??

Yup 5 years, only a small team though, MS likely made sure they were well off as well.

Aye, having completed the game myself it deserves way more sales than it got but that was down to microsofts lack of marketing for the game me thinks.

The marketing effort was great, quality wise. Quantity I have no idea on. I think launching the same day as Red Dead Redemption was a stupid idea.

ha that is cool actually. I just remember people complain on here about the lack of advertising is what killed the sales of alan wake. Over a million for a new IP is not to snuffed at though.

i somehow have a hard time believing that. but that is only my personal opinion.

Remedy definitely isn't happy with the console sales of Alan Wake no matter what they say. No one in their right mind can be after such a long development time and hype.

Max Payne sold over 4 million console copies and Pax Payne 2 over 2 million (which already was a big disappointment).

Before release Remedy hoped to expand Alan Wake across a number of different media such as movies, graphical novels and TV series. But what happened was that Alan Wake crawled to 1 million only thanks to bundles. And now they're making games for XBL Arcade.

yes, that is exactly what i am thinking. they even stated, that they spent all their profits from the Max Payne francise on developing it.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

Very happy to hear this. Alan Wake is perhaps the most under appreciated game this generation. And up there on the list of most under appreciated ever. It has an interesting story, likeable characters, great gameplay, great graphics.

Slimebeast keep in mind that they are only making a game for XBLA as a stop gap. The rumours are that they are looking to develop Alan Wake 2 for next gen. I imagine they just wanted to use the engine and do something else this generation. While I'm sure they are disappointed that Alan Wake didn't become a mega blockbuster, the fact they are making an XBLA title isn't indicative of the game being a failure. The burnout franchise had one of it's best selling entries and then the next title was an XBLA one.

It is pretty good proof of those gamers who complain about wanting a horror game not actually wanting a horror game though. It is psychological horror but at the same time playing the game on hard or nightmare most definitely makes it survival horror too. Yet whenever the discussion about horror games comes up on forums almost no one has even played it.

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.

Alan Wake was on OK game nothing special the story was not very good the gameplay was repetitive but a cool idea might have bought a sequel retail release if they added more to the game. Instead they are doing XBLA game which has no resale value and probably not much replayability. No thanks

from the link:
''I wanted to chime in here. We are very happy with the sales and hitting #1 on Steam at launch was nothing short of amazing. We recouped our development and marketing expenses during the first 48 hours. And yes, we're certainly very excited about PC. ''

That's what you get when you make quality PC port and price it reasonably. Congrats. Maybe during some steam sale I double dip too. I really wonder why especially Japanese publishers don't release PC ports of their games. It's basically free money. Vanquish 60fps/1080p...man can dream.

Something that needs clearing up.

So its that just the money Remedy spent on the PC version or the budget for all things AW? Either way very happy its paid off for them.

Remedy: Oh, just the PC version, of course! The budget for all things AW would be... considerably higher. =)
