I hope not. XIII-2 is awesome.

Serious?

Serious. I'm liking it a lot. It's not perfect but by the low standards of JPRGs this gen, it might as well be Chrono Trigger.

13-2 is a great improvement over 13. The fact critics have scored it lower than its predecessor when it addresses practically everything wrong with its predecessor means we need a complete overhaul of the numerical game review system, or critics themselves must wake up and stop being so horrendously inconsistent.

As for its sales. When you're selling the sequel to one of the most hated JRPGs of all time don't expect good sales.

I beg to differ.

Anyway, reviewers in general need to kick their reviewers into shape and completely change their scoring system. They also need to stop scoring games depending on the amount of hype it has, Skyrim and Mass Effect get seriously over-inflated review scores, while a masterpiece like Tales of Vesperia slips under the radar and sits at a 79 on metacritic. You guys can argue about Final Fantasy all you like, but almost every JRPG fan and gamers in general will tell you that Tales of Vesperia is a fantastic game, it's a shame it hasn't been localised on the PS3.

Double agree on that!

I disagree about Mass Effect getting over-inflated scores. Those are 2 of the greatest games ever made.

However you are right about Jrpgs. Tales of Vesperia is easily the best this generation. FF13 got much better reviews than it should have because of hype and graphics. While Vesperia, Star Ocean, Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon got vilified in reviews simply for being Japanese RPGs. Reminded me of the Penny Arcade comic about Enchanted arms where reviews seemed to be attacking it simply because it was a Jrpg.

I actually think the biggest problem Jrpgs have this generation are the fans. The number of people who complain about their being no good jrpgs but you talk to them and they haven't played Xenoblade, Vesperia, Star Ocean, Lost Odyssey or Blue Dragon and it's like well there you go. I would say Vesperia and Xeno are two of the best Jrpgs ever. While Lost Odyssey easily has the best writing of any Jrpg by a long shot.

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.

It really is a lot of fun, something XIII never was.

I beg to disagree, FFXIII was thrilling imo

What? No! It hasn't even been out that long in the US and it's still selling okay in Japan. It is not a bomb.

Nah it didn't bomb.
Square Enix didn't' spend as much money making XIII-2 as XIII.

I bet the game would have been profitable even if it only sold a million.

A lot of those you listed are 360 exclusives. There's the problem. PS2 had a lot of great JRPGs so naturally many of these people upgraded to a PS3.

The game will reach 2m in the next week or two on ps3. Hardly a failure sales wise. Not to mention X-2 sold less than X, so expect similar results. As someone pointed out already, the sales of the XBox version is the only thing that should be getting attention.

This. FFXIII-2 is great so far, but it feels awkward and disjointed, like the reviewers said, the game doesn't know what it wants to be. Also, fun is over-rated, and FFXIII-2 doesn't do "fun" all that well to be honest. Tales of Vesperia is a fun game, it remains light hearted most of the time, the writing is brilliant and has a lot of humour in it too.
