Forums - Sony Discussion - Four Reasons You'll Never See an HD Final Fantasy VII Remake

I frankly doubt it will be made simply because its too risky. There is so much expectation and hype over this game that any remake will inevitably fall short of the expectations. And should it get reviews lower than 90+, you will see what happened with the criticism from all quarters for FF13 but much much worse. Frankly, its a risk I dont see SE taking, especially when they are in a somewhat financially unstable place right now.

Yeah, essentially. He's probably the the major reason why Square Enix did a one-eighty this gen.

Its actully not directly his fault, hes a buisness man, not a game designer, he dosent developers the games that the company makes. SE were heading down this trajectory since the late PS2 generation.

besides Dragon Quest 9 has been a monumental success. is that down to Yochi Wada? not really, he dosent make these games, he allocates resources.

hes allocated resources to the FF13 team, they've taken 5 years to make FF13, which wasnt well recieved. i suppose you can blame him in the sense that he has given them too much freedom to do what they want. but ultimately it was the decision of Kitase and Toriyama to work outside of the RPG template and base the game on things like Lost and Modern Warfare 2.

and Wada has been very good for the company, the aquisition of Edios has led to the success Deus Ex, a new demographic has opened up for SE here in the west. their strategy isnt based on solely the RPG/FF brand anymore. he's brought in Crystal Dynamics, which should bring in the profitable Tomb Raider later this year. hes done a lot for this company since he is not a game designer hes a business man.

and i hope to god he dosent let the developers touch FF7, its a masterpiece as it is. they shouldnt be allowed to remake it until they can prove themselves. which they havent without Hinorobu Sakaguchi.

I think it would both easy and profitable to make a smaller kind of remake, and not the one most people seem to want. I mean keeping the camera fixed and many of the environments 2D, only with much better detail and resolution. Sort of like the transition from the original Monkey Island to the remake.

They couldn't keep the gameplay intact imo, it's way too clunky for modern times.

I don't mean keeping the exact same controls. I don't see why moving 3D character with the stick in a pre-rendered environment wouldn't work.

This is exactly what I want. Maybe have a closer camera than before but have the same layout, events and battle system except with hd background and Hd characters. It has the potential to look even better than FF13 without having to render the background.

Why would Square Enix say 'No' to money.

Bet with gooch_destroyer, he wins if FFX and FFX-2 will be at $40 each for the vita. I win if it dont

Honestly, I could actually see Square Enix or someone else (as I will explain in a moment) remake Final Fantasy 6 or 7 but I don't think they will do this on their own ...

While I wouldn't expect this, one of the most likely (in my opinion) ways that these games would be remade is if Nintendo made a deal with Square Enix. Hypothetically speaking, Nintendo could trade IPs with Square Enix (and possibly pay Square Enix on top of this) allowing one of Nintendo's developers (Camelot or Monolth) to produce a remake of Final Fantasy and Square Enix to make a Nintendo game.

Unlike Square Enix, Nintendo could (probably) justify the massive cost because they would get two exclusive games that were (almost) ensured success, and a Final Fantasy remake being exclusive to a Nintendo system would help Nintendo convince core gamers to adopt to their system.

While I would say that this is a long-shot, Nintendo has made deals like this in the past. The problem I see is that these previous attempts were only moderately successful for Nintendo. Personally, I would argue that they were unsuccessful because Nintendo didn't make enough of these deals, but Nintendo's management may see it a different way.

So true.

I don't buy SE's BS about how it would take ~10 years to make this like gamers want.  And all because it has towns?  OMGZ, NOT TOWNS!!  While we have open world games with larger cities than in FF7 (at least the parts you could explore).  Plus, most of the work is already done for them.  Story, character and enemy designs, environments, and battle statistics.  The only thing they would have to really do is touch up some of the dialogue, record mtion capture and voices, and take the pre-rendered backgrounds and convert them into 3D poly models.  This would cut production time in about half, as well as make it cheaper than the development of a brand new game in the franchise.

Of course, if they do make a remake, I would want them to wait to put it on the PS4.  This way the graphics can be closer to the original backgrounds than if it were on the PS3.  It would also give the PS4 a killer game for all regions.

Counter with:
It will make them money, after SE failing so much this generation they will make it.
