Forums - Gaming Discussion - Game of the Year 2011 - Elimination Game (The Witcher 2 Wins!)

This game was ridiculous. Lol at all the console fans voting off rival exclusives early only for a PC exclusive to win!

Anyway, one thing I've taken from this thread is that I'm going to buy XenoBlade Chronicles. I've yet to play a decent console JRPG this generation.

Witcher 2 is really a great game and looks like it was mostly shunned by the media, which is a shame. They'll probably drool over it once it releases for 360.

Depends on how much Microsoft advertizes it. Alan Wake didn't get the sales it deserved, nor the media attention. So it could go either way. I doubt it will remain 360 exclusive anyway, likely a timed release or not exclusive at all like Crysis 2, Dead Island, and Prey 2 turned out to be

I really like Lost Odyssey and Valkyria Chronicles. I think The Last Story has potential to be good, but yea, you are right, console JRPG's this gen are almost absent.

Witcher 2 has already proven itself though, so I expect nothing less than stellar reviews for it. It's an excellent game. Alan Wake had too much hype to live up to, and took far too long to develop.

I don't really pay attention to hype, it makes you buy games which are just name brands. I look at reviews and if they are good, even if just on one site, I play the game. Before I did this I missed out on a lot of great games like Chrono Trigger, Pikmin, Too Human, Fire Emblem, and well most niche JRPG's.

Anyway... you make a good point, it will get great scores, but sales are by no means garenteed to be good. I expect only about 1 million sales per console (it will come to PS3), it won't even compare saleswise to Skyrim. I say 1 million because that's about how well Crysis did, and that was a well reviewed PC sequal.

1 million would be very good for a relatively low-budget Polish game, I think.

I'm actually really interested to see how a polish game's story would be being that I am Ukrainian. Tired of American narration, it's far too predictable now, and I have no interest in medevil times WRPG's.

Crysis 2 had a decent marketing push, was an FPS and had the "best looking console game" hype pre launch even if it didn't live up to the hype that pushed the game.

The Witcher 2 will probably get next to no advertising, is a hardcore story focused WRPG and also a very late port. It will be lucky to do 500k LTD. It does have a core following but mainly in Europe where 360 isn't that popular. Similar games would be Sacred 2: Fallen Angel  (460k), Dark Souls (0.35) or even Dungeon Siege III (210k) exept none of those were late ports. As for PS3 it's unlikely at this stage that it will be released maybe The Witcher 3 will make it to PS3 but I don't think a PS3 port of a over year old game, it took them more than 6 months to make a 360 port, PS3 would be harder plus they would need to devote resorces to TW3.

Yea so even 1 million will be hard. My point was the game won't do too well.

However I think there is a decent hardcore following in Americas....they just own the game for PC. lol. Hope it breaks 500k.

Considering that the PC version already turned a profit anything over 200k would be considered a success for CDP Red I would think. The game only cost $8 million to make so porting it and a little marketing probably would cost ~$1 million.

Though I have no doubt that The Witcher 2 is a great game, the title of the thread should change to "Least hated game of 2011".

lol I know what you mean - These types of threads usually end up like this

I remember one time we had a best TV show elimination thread, near the end (with about 7 shows left), Archbrix made a surprise move and said everyone had to give their favourite shows ordered from best to worst. The results turned out to be pretty accurate of most people's opinions, even though my favourite show didn't win XP

Take note future elimination thread makers!!
