Forums - Sony Discussion - The heck, PS3 DMC4 requires 25 min hard drive installation?!

While the opinion of certain gaming Web sites is that Devil May Cry 4 currently looks and plays better on Sony’s latest console, expectant PS3 fans can also look forward to exclusive 5.1 LPCM audio support, PlayStation Network content, and – most interestingly – the ability to install game data directly onto the PlayStation 3 hard drive.

We will see when the final version is released. It also includes achievements for the PS3 version. As for the load times, for HD content I doubt a 2 sec difference between a HDD load and a disc access. But again it is pure speculation on load times. What isnt is that the PS3 version will have none.

What I don't understand is how a 5GB install could possibly take 25 minutes. The game is on Blu-Ray, how about using some of that 50GB disc? I'm sure since the game is also on Xbox360 the full game doesn't need anywhere near 50GB, so why not just place the installed files directly on the disc without compression? That would speed the install process up drastically.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

@Griffin...
What are you talking about with Oblivion? the only load time that takes that long on my xbox is when i first load the game. It usually takes no more then 15-30 seconds while playing the game, and only while going into another building or something. Ive played Oblivion for friggin ever and never had the problems your talking about, or even the problem of walking around and having load times while doing that.

Maybe your cache is fragmented. Try holding down the A button while the game is booting, that clears the cache, maybe itll help.

Back on Topic:
I think the bigger problem here isnt necessarily the whole "its worth it" deal. I think the issue is whether or not more developers take this stance with their games, eventually it may become more difficult to play a game. Instead of just popping in a disc and getting to play, you will have to deal with having to clear up space BEFORE you can even play a game. Which would suck cuz the play reason i have a console is cuz i can put in the disc and it just plays.

 The reason it's installed on the HDD is not because it can't fit on the disc, it's because HDD are exponentialy  faster then optical drives, and what better way to eliminate load times than to have all critical data stream from the fastest storage device in this case the HDD.

So what? You only have to do it once. Do it when you go to sleep. Who cares. This is meaningless. Do it when you you don't want to play video games. Done!

I would say something about the install time, but 25 min is nothing compared to how long it to for me to install Gears of War on my computer.

I just wanted you guys to know, I always loved PS3. Always thought it was a stand up system! Never had a bad word to say about it! It turned on every mornign. The Disc stayed there shrink wrapped and the power cord was un-plugged. It was perfect for putting my toast on while I was getting my eggs. The PS2 was quite a staunch ally in the preparation of the proper Mancunian breafast feast. Beans and eggs. And the playstation brand grows strong.

PC installations take a while. Install games like WOW or even SWBF it takes time. Then you get patches :( that is longer than 25mins :P

  Unleash The Beast!

End of 2011 Sales: Wii = 90mil, 360 = 61mil, PS3= 60mil

 Gears of War on PC had a stupidly long installation time. It seemed to copy the compressed files to the HDD, then proceed to extract them, rather than just extract them from the DVD.

so it is an pc after all!!
