I don't think he has turned on FFXIII that quickly. That is a genius plan if that is what he is doing though, lowering expectations, never thought of that.

He could easily be possesed though, it's why he could have turned on FFXIII and quit VGC.

Maybe because FFXIII had glaring faults that people will stop being blindly optimistic because it is a "Final Fantasy".

I'm going to Harajuku (Tokyo, Japan) this week and will be getting a copy on release (as well as having a holiday), so I'll let you all know, post release some first hand impressions, could be a week or so after release though by the time I post them, Once I get back from Japan I plan on playing it almost exclusively so things should fly along from there.

Japanese origins have nothing to do with this; if anything it's just because specifically FF has become a joke and the go-to example of all the worst excesses of its genre. At this point the series is beyond salvation

Your post is a clear example of blind hattred toward Final Fantasy. It has become an example of nothing, FF XIII is far from beeing a bad game, its not the best FF in the planet but its not an atrocity, ppl got disapointed because the game wasnt the thing everyone was expecting it to be and that originated an insane wave of blind hattred that made them say things like "At this point the series is beyond salvation".

So if tomorrow Square were to anounce FF XV and it turns out to be better tham FF VI and VII together would you still say this same thing you did here ? Another thing thats interesting about the blind hattred towards the series is how ppl treat FF XI and XIV diferently, XI wich is a very good game is treated as something that is not a part of the FF series because its an online game, while XIV that sucks is considered like its one of the singleplayer numbered FF just because its a terrible game (and XIV realy has no redeeming quality it sucks).

In resume ppl decided FF should be hatted and bam, the hate wave started and will probably never end regardless of the quality of forthcoming games in the series. I wont mind as long as Square keep making good/great FF games and releasing them on the West, even if they have to reduce the production values of the games on the future.

I really think that Edge is biased. Graphics are a huge part of the game and it shold not be overlooked (something that they have done with many big games) Infact they seem to judge games with better visuals at a much higher standard than they would do with a game that has normal visals. The ignored all of Zelda's visual faults and games like hardly even noticed the fact how good visuals games like God of War 3, Uncharted 3, and Gears of War 3 is. Despite them giving UC3 and Gears of War 3 a good score. 

Funny, I thought it was one of the top best FF in the whole series and deserves all the universal acclaim it got. Great Story, Fighting system, dialogue and no random encounters. NO RANDOM ENCOUNTERS. Soundtrack was a bit weak but still amazing overall.
