Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii RPGs, Which Ones?

if you're going to go with one of the Rune Factories I suggest Frontier over Tides of Destiny. They simplified the farming too much in Tides of Destiny to the point that it lost its most defining gameplay feature and just became an ok action RPG with a lot of side stuff you can do at home.

ToS2 is good, Arc Rise Fantasia is ok but the voice acting is some of the worst ever so watch a video or two to make sure you can stand it before buying it.

In addition to the games already mentioned you should check out Virtual Console for gems like Ogre Battle, Secret of Mana and Super Mario RPG among others.

Good Wii RPGs I've played:
Arc Rise Fantasia
Muramasa: the Demon Blade
Fragile Dreams
Super Paper Mario

Bad Wii RPGs I've played:
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World.

EDIT: Zelda is not an RPG.

Yes, I'm very aware that Zelda is NOT an RPG.  Some think that, and I mentioned it to help ensure no one suggests it to me.  I do have Fragile Dreams, and Muramasa is on my Amazon Wish list.  Arc Rise Fantasia, I'll look into it.

I really liked it. The voice acting is a bit much for the most part of the game, and the graphics are meh, but the battle system of story were top notch. I was very pleasantly surprised. Also, as someone else already mentioned, there's tons of good RPGs in the VC library.

8th gen predictions. (made early 2014)
PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m
3DS: 80-85m
PSV: 15-20m

Get the Last Story when it releases next year

If you consider Monster Hunter to be a RPG, then I'd have to say that. Be careful though, it's the type of game that you will play for hours and hours straight.

Tales of Symphona: Dawn of the New World- If have not beat the 1st one buy that and play it on your Wii (It was a GC game) those two games have very fun action RPG combat, and epic story lines. The other ones you named seem like good choices. Fire Emblem was very good, also you can play the GC one again (or for the 1st time?).

This so much !

I also thought Arc Rise Fantasia wasn't bad, the voice acting was so bad it was funny :3

Those are two must have RPGs on Wii

If you haven't played them, you should consider GC RPGs as well. Tales of Symphonia, both Baten Kaitos games (Origins especially), Paper Mario: TTYD.

Skies of Arcadia too I guess but I don't like it that much...

Very good suggestions, I played all those and enjoyed them very much! ESPECIALLY the bolded

Came here to comment about this game. Tales of Symphonia on GCN is my favorite console RPG of all time. When I played the sequel for the Wii, I was pleasantly surprised. It's a spin-off, so it isn't a full fledged Tales experience (I clocked about 20 hours ignoring any side quests) and it is pretty linear, however, the story is pretty great and if you are a fan of the first game, I'm positive you'll love the sequel.

- Murmasa demon blade
- Arc rise fantasia
- Rune Factory (Both) If U like it's style

Got my Wii a year ago, but I'm in the same boat. EB Games should be selling Fire Emblem for $10-$15 used now days. I got my copy for $15, I was shocked, expected to pay more.

Waiting on Last Story and XenoBlade too. Only other suggestions I have are Arc Rise Fantasia, Tales of Symphonia 2, and well that's it.

If your never had a gamecube, there are some great RPG's on that system. Baten Kaitos and Baten Kaitos Origin is made by the same developer as XenoBlade, Paper Mario & The Thousand Year Door is excellent, and Tales of Symphonia 1 is much better then 2.

Also Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles for Gamecube is a great game.
