Nearly everything you wrote, sry. Late January is late january, nevertheless good holiday sales are good holiday sales (and these sales are about 1/3 of yearly sales).

OK, obviously amazing holiday sales would be to their credit. I expect ambivalent holiday sales (not much better than 360/PS3 for Wii, tracking a lot below DS's later Christmases for 3DS), but *dead* post-holiday sales, like near zero.

2D Mario was and probably is a monster, but 3DS is far from dead and you should know that. By the way, 2D Mario on 3DS???

2D Mario is a different game series in consumers' minds. I can tell by the way 64/Sunshine/64 DS/Galaxy/Galaxy 2/3D Land were/are selling on similar trajectories, and NSMB DS/Wii have trajectories tracking unbeliveably above those numbers, but cost less to make.

You're dead Sir,

dead wrong!

2D Mario ftw, i can't hear that sh*** anymore!

I personally prefer 3D Mario to 2D Mario. Nevertheless I accept the economic reality that 3D Mario will never sell as well and Nintendo needs to stop pushing that as their flagship series, when 2D Mario and Wii Sports should recieve the development love (orchestrated soundtracks, sparkling graphics etc). You're letting your own preferences get in the way of what Nintendo should make.

Rol, stopp it!

It's not about my preferences. The important question is: "Will the DS/2D Mario fan buy a 3DS/2DMario combi?"

Yes. The console is not important. But they would have to treat said 2D Mario like a premium game which they are not prepared to do (recycled graphics/music for NSMB Wii).

I don't know, but 3DS is already above 1st year sales of DS, just after 8 months. Add Mario Kart, MH3G etc. and you think sales will drop to "zero-level". I call it BS!

It is tracking above DS at a time when DS also had "no games" except SM64DS. Pre-Mario Kart/Brain Traning/Animal Crossing/Nintendogs/NSMB DS. This time next year I'll be surprised if it's tracking half of DS at that time.

Wii is dead, WiiU is coming, PS360-like sales are amazing for Wii, imho (considering 3rd party support of the last YEARS, sales are gigantic!).

PS360 like sales are disappointing for a console that should be selling PS3+360 levels. Nintendo has let momentum fall this low, and it is still riding on Wii Sports/Fit/NSMB Wii alone. Wii U will have none of the back catalogue to keep selling.

3DS is selling on track now, with DS still selling, too.

I don't care about hardware unit sales, Nintendo is losing money per unit. I care about software sales (abysmal) and Nintendo's profits (negative). DS sales means that Nintendo have failed to convince them to transition yet, just like PS2 selling vs PS3 did. What you want is a GC-> Wii situation where sales of the previous fall to zero, because Nintendo isn't making much on DS and DS software.

2D-Mario could still come to 3DS and accelerate sales, but nevertheless 3DS sales are perfectly fine. DEAD???

Dead. Yes. Defined as: Nintendo is making a loss on it and software attach rates are the lowest of any major console of all time. (<2)

If anything, Vita is DOA, but we'll see!

Yes indeed. If it's priced way more than 3DS including memory it is excluding itself from DS owners just as much as

Ridiculous!

My personal favorite: "PS360 like sales are disappointing for a console that should be selling PS3+360 levels." -lol

Oh and that one: "DS sales means that Nintendo have failed to convince them to transition yet, just like PS2 selling vs PS3 did"

Funny you are, ...

Apparently I am not a real gamer according to Mr. Grass because I tried out the Gamecube and felt that it was Nintendo's worst system. I never called it kiddy, BTW.

Now I shall log out and cry.

Did you buy the GC at launch?  It did have Super Smash Bros Melee and Luigi's Mansion at launch.  Melee was perhaps one of the best launch games since Super Mario Bros.  Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2  and Super Monkey Ball were also launch games.   Anyways, the Virtual Boy easily tops the list for worst Nintendo system unless you don't even want to mention the name.

I like all of the games that you mentioned( I actually am a hardcore Monkey Ball fan).  As a matter of fact, I like the Gamecube.  I just happen to like the NES, SNES, N64, and Wii all a lot better.  I wasn't counting handhelds or that abomination known as the Virtual Boy.  Yes, the Virtual Boy is the worst thing that Nintendo ever released.  I'd rather have an Atari Jaguar.

It may not be over yet and it was far from minor...

A 50% drop in the value of a company in less than 12 months is severe.... and in no way minor.

Stock value is a tricky thing. I think it is safe to say that Nintendo's market cap was handily overvalued in the heady days of 2008 (given that it outpaced Sony and was second in all of Japan after Toyota, beating companies of far greater material worth), so in mirroring a justified drop due to a dip in performance, the company had further to fall because they had been built further still

That and investors are dumb as hell, and really don't know the market, as evidenced by the stock spike that followed the mere rumor that a Pokemon TCG game on iPhone meant that Nintendo was developing for iOS

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Wasn't really a fall tbh as the were logical standard reasons why things were happening, 3DS was still selling and Wii was always going to slow down with it's successor coming, it was more of a minor slow patch some were hoping was a fall. A fall is more like what happened with the PS3 in the first 2 years of launch.
