Forums - Nintendo Discussion - MarioKart DoubleDash 2. A WiiU Concept

(Assuming Ninty packages a Wiimote+ with every WiiU) I reckon we might see somethin' like a MarioKart double dash 2 on the WiiU. Motion+ tracking with the Wiimote+ is gonna open up a lot of possibilities for the steering wheel with that device alone. Turning the wheel really sharply makes a kind of dodging/ramming manuver etc.

But the real thing here is a new CO-OP Mode. We'll have one steering with the wheel, and the other guy in the back, 360° gyro aiming ( from a First Person view)  with the WiiU control. Some new Items and abilities will have to be introduced to make gyro aiming even more fun though. Maybe some kinda item that acts like a missile. Maybe even some kinda grappling hook to swing or to latch on to other drivers thats about to boost. Switching between driver and shooter would only be superficial though, but a small gripe.

Well its just a concept but I think it'd be pretty cool if done correctly . I haven't thought of everything yet but its a start. What other things would you like to see in this concept?

And here's a clip to get the idea of gyro aimming with the WiiU controller. (updated video) And maybe you should be able to use the triggers or somethin for 180 degree turns.

Actually sounds like a cool idea!

After five seconds of brainstorming:

Single-player: Wii U tablet controls, with the screen being the map (MKDS & SNES style) - OR - it could serve as a rear-view mirror
Two-player: Two Wii tablets or one bloke driving and the other shootin' like you said.
Three & Four players - too lazy.

Also, a completely new item, where the second player actually directs it towards the target. You could technically also do this with the Blue Shell, but then it wouldn't necessarily always go to first place.

I liked Double Dash, but in reality the concept of two players to each kart doesn't apply anymore. A major reason behind the two person per kart was Nintendo GameCube's LAN capabilities. The game was supposed to be largely 16 player though upon release this fact was very unknown. Fact is today LAN capabilities don't really matter we have online and there is no reason to accommodate 16-players. Of course there were many other aspects which led to Double Dash but most of these aspects aren't really applicable today.

Fact is people want to drive as well as shoot. They want the full experience and the Double Dash idea just doesn't fly that well in the current market. I guess I could see 2-player karts being an option, maybe Nintendo could make it that if two players wanted to team up with the same kart that this would be possible.

But I can't see any logical reason to create another Double Dash. It was amazing for its time but the concept just isn't as appetizing in todays market!

2 guys driving with the wheels( split screen on the tv) while the other 2 on their backs with the WiiU controls is the idea.

Having the second player manually looking back and precisely deflecting projectiles would be cool indeed.

This a good idea. I can see it working very well. And the two driving could have wii remotes and the two in the back could have the tablet since I doubt four tablets could actually work on the System.
And Joel if anyone didn't want to play with two people on a single kart they wouldn't have to just like in the original double dash.

Couple this idea with HD graphics and online (special rooms for co-op mode) and you have something special

I hope not. Double Dash is my least favorite Mario Kart game.

lol this was in a post over in that *I see trouble for WiiU* thread :p

Looks interesting but if they do have something like this for the next MK, I hope it's just a feature and not the main mode
