Forums - Sales Discussion - Xbox 360 Vs. Playstation 3 2012 - *February* Update

First we must consider that probably this 1M advantage for the PS3 should be a bit lower, considering the history undertrack to 360 in recent quarters.

MW3 and Battlefield 3 will each move more hardware units for the 360, than Uncharted3 for the PS3.

Good bundle of 3 or 4 games with every XBox 360 purchase or a Kinect with every XBox 360 or a $50 or $100 gift voucher with every XBox 360 purchase in November and December to coincide with big game releases and the Xmas sales period.

1 million gap between PS3 and X360 in 2011 can be narrowed in the last quarter. PS3 will stay ahead of the X360 in 2011 by less than 500,000 units. PS3 = 13 to 14 million sales. X360 = 12.5 million to 13.5 million sales.

It is possible for the X360 to tie the PS3 for the year by outselling the PS3 by 1 million in tha last 3 months but unlikely. More than likely the gap can be narrowed as the X360 finishes the year as good or better than the PS3.

that is an average of 80.000 that has the X360 need to sell more than PS3 every week? That is a lot.

I doubt it.

o, aren't they talking about shipments numbers? they can ship what they want so that shouldn't be to hard to ship more than PS3 even when they sell less..

i don't see a price cut helping MS but i believe wht they have right now could give them the win.

at this point they've stolen Oct. from Sony without any effort on there part. i think everything will balance out a PS3 will pick up a very close to call win.

that said 1m is easy to pass and MS could still 2011 holiday season right from under Sony's nose.

the last 3 battles are UC3, MW3, and BF3. ain't it funny how the last 3 battles for 2011 come in 3's lol!

i have nothing to say about Forza4. yea sure i'll get it but a hardware boost is doubtful IMO.

MW and BF favor MS, but with COD sells for the 2 HD's closer then ever before. COD may not help MS much, but BF preorders indicate that MS will take those sells and that could be MS final boost giving them the win.

Sony has luck which is something they haven't had alot of this gen, but i count no one out. not even ninty.

i hope the flame wars are over and we can all look at this objectively without being one sided and see wht the big 3 have to offer.

although it isn't much we still have alot to look forward to and i'm sure they'll be some adjustments here and there. so lets just look at it as any ones game cause i see nothing cut and dry here.

by the way i hate chess but lets play the game and see who wins?

I don't think so. MS will slightly lose 2011 by less than a million.

2012 will be a huge year for MS, because they will cut the price by quite a margin. Halo 4, Star Wars and Fable won't hurt sales either. The TV offerings will start to kick in next year and have an effect on console sales.

I think MS might cut the price so significant, because they prepare a new console launch in 2013.

thats very sound and i like it. 2012 definatly favors MS.

are you thinking Sony is looking at a 2014 launch?

yea i like this one to.

Too many wild cards at this point for me to predict at the moment. But if i were a betting man, i'd say very close but PS3 will edge them out for 2011 overall just because of the lead they have at the moment.

It's up in the air though, we don't know if Kinect is a one hit wonder or a new wave to get bigger every year. Number 2 PS3 is cheaper this year with what looks like a good ad campaign coming up. Number 3, maybe the UC3 bundle won't push hardware like people expect, the game will sell regardless, but will hardware boost from it? With no uber limited edition console like Gears, hard to say.

Number 4, last year was the Move's debut with Walmart commercials and Sony really pushing it. But since then has Move lost it's luster? Can Sony count on a percentage of casual gamers picking up a PS3 this year? And for me, the biggest wild card is Japan. That could be the tipping scale, because X360 is non existent there and PS3 has a bundle in Nov with Ni No, and an even better one with FF XIII-2 so Japan might have a week or two during the holidays where Sony can push some hardware.
