The Return of The Week That Was

Don't pinch yourself, you're not dreaming! It's really back! Due to overwhelming demand (well, two people actually) I've decided to keep on writing my weekly summaries of the important events in the wonderful world of video games. Now, since I've been on an extended break, this week's summary might cover things that happened in more than just the last seven days thus completely defeating the point of this thread, so feel free to file a class action lawsuit against me for false pretences.

*** The Art of Selling Out ***

You may have noticed that this thread comes to you in glorious Boob-O-Vision and you might wonder why? The answer is simple, my first two thread got a decent number of replies but not enough to satisfy my unquenchable thirst for attention. So, in an effort to boost my views, I've decided to follow the fine example of the 24 hour news channel and stoop to the lowest common denominator. So enjoy!

*** The Butterfly Effect ***

We recently learned that Dragon Quest X will be releasing on Wii and Wii U and not on Sony's platforms. Apparently, this news was so bad that it caused Square-Enix's and Sony's stock to plummet (thread). Yes, you read right! The fact that DQ X is not coming to Sony's console convinced investors that the company known for their TVs, Blu-ray players, laptops, video game consoles, digital cameras, etc.. was completely worthless. Repercusions of this horrible news were felt all over the world: Obama's approval rating dipped under 40%, Justin Beiber started wearing women's clothes, Dairy Queen's stock fell sharply having the misfortune of sharing the same initials as Dragon Quest and at least 2 of the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse were spotted.

*** The Results Are (Partially) In ***

Over the course of the summer, amidst all the partying, the days at the beach, the overdrinking, the steamy summer flings (damn my summer rocked!), you might remember having taken some time off to lock in your predictions in Seece's Metacritic Prediction thread. Well now it's time to see how well you know your games because the first set of results are in (thread). Our friend Jay520 is currently in first place but I wouldn't count myself out just yet... I'm so close to the last place that I'm bound to blue shell him before the race ends.

*** Tokyo Game Show ***

TGS took place last week and we got ourselves some interesting info about upcoming games and systems.

First up, the PlayStation Vita: we got a list of very promising launch titles (Uncharted, Ultimate MvC3 and Katamari Damacy come to mind) and we also got the somewhat disappointing news about the system's battery life. Information released indicate that a fully charged battery will run approximately 3 to 5 hours and that's with network and speakers off. Experts estimate that at full screen brightness, with speakers and network on, the battery will not last through the length of a Metal Gear Solid cutscene(*).
(*) Disclaimer: The experts mentionned above may or may not know what they're talking about, in fact they may not really exist.

We also got fresh news from Square-Enix and it seems that there's a HD version a Final Fantasy X coming to PS3 and PS Vita (news) which of course had the unfortunate side effect of reviving the ever so tedious debate surrounding the eventual remake of Final Fantasy VII (thread). Also, for those who had hoped that TGS would be the perfect event to disclose the release date of Final Fantasy Versus XIII, you'll be sorry to hear that the information was not released as the Square-Enix representative quickly swallowed a cyanide capsule when queried about it (ending the conference quite abruptly).

In my last TGS related news, I was surprised to see a trailer for Max Payne 3 pop up last week (news) (thread). Part of my surprise was due to the fact I don't even know the game was under development but that's not the only thing that surprised me. The setting of the game has changed considerably: Max shaved his head and now lives in sunny Sao Paulo. If you ask me (and I know you didn't) that's kinda like using Toon Town as the setting for the next Batman game but I'll wait until I get more info on the game before I write it off.

*** Conclusion ***

Here's the end of my little recap, of course there's tons of other announcements I could have covered but I'm running out of boobs so this will have to do. Feel to mention the recent gaming news you think were important in the last week or so.

For those interested, here are the links to the two previous boobs-less editions of The Week That Was

Awesome OP. You realise you're going to have to do a topless men version next week though, right? Equal opportunities 'n all that.

Don't think that'll a problem I happen to have a few of those pictures saved on my computer for some reason.
