I thought the traditional way to pull off this scam was to buy/steal a product, take it out of the box and then sell the box with something of similar size & weight for half the price of the product?

From my understanding, in some cases the scam artists don't even need the product they just pick the box they need out of the garbage (which makes this a particularly popular scam after Christmas) ...

Buying and Apple product is bad enough but buying a fake Apple product is even worse. The IPad is neither a Smart Phone or a Net book. IPad looks like a Kindle/IPodb Touch with a 10 inch touch screen.

Anyone stupid enough to buy a fake product that does not even look real, deserves to be scammed.

That happened to me when I first got my GameBoy Advance. Picked up Castlevania: Circle of the Moon from Best Buy (it was located in the gaming section in Best Buy, still shrink wrapped...), and when I opened it the car, there were two Taco Bell mild sauces in there instead of the game.
