American PS3 pre orders are always low compared to X360. This is nothing new.

I agree that pre-ordering isn't necessarily completely pointless, in my opinion it all depends on the pre-order bonuses. If there is an interesting pre-order bonus, pre-ordering can make sense, otherwise it doesn't. For example, I'm seriously considering pre-ordering my first game ever - Ratchet & Clank All 4 1, because there will be special weapons as pre-order bonus.

So let's see what kind of bonus you get for pre-ordering the PS3 version of Modern Warfare 3:

Some stupid desktop wallpaper that you can download on your PC. Of course, if one was seriously interested in this (why would anyone?), he could just as well simply download it from some thousands of websites as soon as it gets released, since it's probably just one stupid JPEG file. It's just ridiculous!

The 360 version has the same pre-order bonus, but you also get some DLC for free - for example the "American special forces" avatar when pre-ordering on Amazon. Now that's a completely different story: Unlike the pointless desktop wallpaper, pre-ordering will be the only way to get this.

Another explanation is that modern warfare is huge especially in the USA, the one country where the 360 is selling much better than the PS3.

Lol, PS3 owners may "shun" the pre-orders, but on launch week MW3 PS3 will sell greater than the lifetime sales of almost every PS3 exclusive coming out besides Uncharted 3.
