I'll just repost my comment from the Americas up thread.

Some of the things MS have said are just not adding up. They expect to be #1 this year, which would mean that they must expect to sell more than PS3's projected 15 million (unless Sony expect PS3 to sell noticeably more in Q1 2012 than Q1 2011). That would be a 1.5 million YOY increase. But the only way I can see that happening is if they had announced a price cut at E3. Looking at the future forecast they're going to lose all of their YOY gains in the next 5 weeks or so and from the European slim launch onward it's nothing but very difficult comparisons through the rest of the year. I'm not even sure if a $100 cut would be enough to put them 1.5 million in the positive, especially with the huge boost Kinect gave them last year.

Aside from that decent numbers for PS3 and Wii, only moderately down YOY. Although it's pretty clear Wii is going to fall very significantly behind last year overall. Handhelds are just pathetic across the board though. Heh, when was the last time a Japan only 360 game cracked the top 40? Monster Hunter Frontier?

How much down are you excecting? Me thinks about 8M down.

Wow, that's a pretty big boost for the 3DS in Japan. Wonder why the Americas are so low... And PS3 sales are almost identical in EMEAA and the Americas lol.

Look at the American chart.

OoT failed to chart at all in America.

Ouch. Any reason for that? I thought Zelda was popular in the Americas, especialy OoT.

Did MS expect to be #1 in the Americas or worldwide?

I'm under the impression they meant worldwide. It's almost painfully obvious they're going to win in America.

American gamers collectively decided to donate all their money to Greece in order to save that pitiful country. Sucks for Nintendo, but such is life.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

Because these sales are from 11th June to 18th June ,OOT didn't come out in Americas till 19th.  Me thinks it will do about 360,000.

Yup, Don Mattrick said globally.

Then again he also said: "As you just experienced with the new Call of Duty, the world's greatest storytellers are redefining our industry."

3DS's predecessor giving it a run for its money. Nice start for OOT! That will be my first 3DS game when and if I finally get one.

I also think it's fairly obvious a price cut on Kinect and a big advertising boost will push Kinect higher than it did last year, why are people so against the idea Kinect can sell akin to a console? People see its sales today and think, it's fading fast, it's history. Have they learnt NOTHING from being on this site???

It might not be obvious to you but then you don't have all the facts and you're not in the know, MS rarely come out with comments like this and I don't think they would stand on that stage and repeat it to journalists unless they were very confident.

Like i said, Kinect bundle at $199 + advertisments, sales in the U.S will explode, that'll be enough for WW.

The thing about Microsoft's statement is its probably for their fiscal year, and not the calendar year. I'm not sure X360 will be ahead of Wii or PS3 this (Jan-Dec) year. X360 is behind PS3 quite a bit by sales / shipments and we've heard murmurs of a Sony price cut in August, nothing really about a X360 price cut yet. Wii is a little ahead of X360 year to date, and that lead should grow further over the next few months since Nintendo cut price. Then, later in the year, Wii will probably perform similarly in the West to X360 over Christmas and better in Japan.

X360 is already ahead of Wii (and PS3) in the USA over the past year, and by extension North America, but its hard to imagine that expanding globally. Here in the USA part of the reason I wanted price cuts for X360 / PS3 at E3 was because with the NFL strike some of the Madden / NCAA momnetum that keeps sales decent in July-August will probably be gone this year, which means the baseline ahead of the price cuts will be lower. August is kind of a wasteland from the release dates that have been announced so far, so the rebound on price cuts will be from a pretty low point.
