Forums - Politics Discussion - The (new) Official Political Compass Thread - All Users of VGC join in!

I mentioned the need for a new thread with a listing of everyone.

Since the service is pretty flexible, we can have a chart that lists all VGC users that take the test.

The test is a very in-depth politics test that is based on a 2-axis system. Rather than argue if you are 'left wing' or 'right wing', political ideologies are instead based on authoritarian or libertarian viewpoints on the economy and social ideas. That is, you can be 'right wing' on economics, but 'left wing' on social issues, and fit into a different mold than simply being a 'conservative' or 'right winger'.

Unlike the short political test, this is test has no real bias to it, and I've seen people score all over the charts in every quadrant (although its rare to see many in the upper-left quadrant).

The website for the test is www.politicalcompass.org

I'll be adding more to this post shortly. Once we get 20 respondants, I will start aggregating the results for the site.

Few quick notes about the test (as I really enjoy it, and its a fun barometer to see where people are on the scale, and how they change over time):

1. Many questions suck, or are confusing. Do not worry about this. Since there are ~6 pages of questions, you aren't going to endager your political ideology by answering one question wrong. I've changed my answers many, MANY times and have only drifted 1 grid since I first took the test 2 years ago.

2. Most governments moderate their viewpoints towards the middle/upper right quadrant (e.g. 'conservative'). Therefore, when you see your comparison to most leaders/governments and wonder why American leaders labled as 'leftist' are very far right of the spectrum, it is usually because they moderate their opinions inside legislatures and the like. That is one of the major functions of a democratic government - which alternatively means that those without a democratic process have a tendency to be in significantly different quadrants (e.g. Pol Pot, Mao, Stalin, Hitler, ect).

Who or what do you compare to?

Here is a quick list of comparables derived from the various responses of the test. Some people are 'estimated' via various tests I've seem from PoliticalCompass before:

And here is the aggregate of VGC users:

The chart isn't likely perfect, but should be indicative of where some politicians and ideological figures stand on the chart.

Enjoy!

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Seems like I was further right and more libertarian last time I took it, but it's been a while.

Looks like last time..

The same as the last thread chart.

Anyone who's breaking the law is obvious a criminal.
