Forums - Gaming Discussion - Pre-ordering at Best Buy!

Alright I always pre-order from EBGames but when Best Buy offered 10$ worth in points per pre-order I make their I decided to take my buisness to them. So I pre-ordered Ocarina Of Time 3D. I filled in all the info and thought I'd get a phone call, today I was lazy I was waiting for the phone call from Best Buy to tell me my game was in. I decided not to go out to Best Buy and check because last time EBGames never called me the game wasn't actually in stock.

So I waited the whole day for my call from Best Buy and never got one. So I'm wondering does Best Buy actually call you to inform you your copy is in when you pre-order? If not how long do they hold your copy I know EBGames holds for like 48 hours or something?

I'm alittle puzzled I'll go into Best Buy tomorow to find out what the deal is, has anyone pre-ordered games from them before? Are they better to pre-order from then say GameStop and EBGames?

In my experience pre-ordering at Best Buy, they've never called me to tell me they have the game. You just go to the store and pick it up. They usually have too many copies anyway of triple A releases. Gamestop usually has more pre-order perks but BB is trying to compete now. So what I do is go to BB, Gamestop, Amazon, etc. and see which one has the best deal.

Okay I guess I better go to Best Buy tom and pick up my game. Sorta funny they take down your phone number and everything yet they don't call. Oh well 10$ in points is worth pre-ordering through them rather then EBGames unless EB gets a sweet promotional item!

I pre-ordered mine at toysrus. They sent me an email early Sunday telling me it's on backorder. I called an cancel and went out to get a copy at gamestop.

My shadow wars copy still get the $10 off for the zelda pre-order deal, though.

So today I went to Best Buy to pick up my copy.

First thing I did was ask the lady why theirs no phone call and she said most gamers know when the products get released and will come pick it up without a call. So then I asked with my pre-order how long does Best Buy hold my product, she replied that Best Buy holds the product for 14 days.

However she then entered my number and reciept into her computer. Then went to the cage with all the games in it, but found out they already sold my copy. She went to customer service and they said that all reserve copies were put on the shelf. She went to the shelf and found a single copy left on the shelf.

I complained I was like "What the heck, why didn't you guys hold onto my copy" she replied, well you pre-ordered the game and you got the game what are you upset about. I then said how do I know in the future when I pre-order that I'll actually get my product and she told me "If you pre-order you will always get your product day one" She said that I don't have to worry and it is safe to pre-order from them.

I'm honestly alittle concerned, EBGames holds your copy for 48 hours and calls you to let you know its in. Best Buy just puts your copy on the shelf if you don't pick it up day one, then claims that they are holding your copy for 14 days.

I might just have to return to pre-ordering from EBGames, if I didn't get my copy of OoT today I would have been thoroughly pissed!

Bestbuy is a retailer giant and gaming is just a tiny part of it. It's not top priority to make the gamers happy. Gamestop meanwhile has more reason to make you happy since gaming is their only business.

Pretty sure aside from Bestbuy, all other electronic retailers are the same. Futureshop, toysrus, etc... I called toysrus to complain too when they emailed me that it's on backorder.

Yah but when you advertise pre-orders and you clearly want gamer's buisness. Then offering a quality service is nescessary. Best Buy emails me with pre-order deals all the time and in store their are posters all over promoting pre-ordering. If they are going to offer the service and compete with EBGames , GameStop then they should treat the customer as good as the competition.

I would stop pre-ordering at GameStop/EBGames at the drop of a hat if another retailer offered pre-order services that were on par or close. I was tempted to make Best Buy my new pre-order store. But if this is the kind of service you get I may have to re-consider.

I mean putting my copy on store shelves the day after release, without notifying me that my order was in. Thats just rude and mistreatment of the consumer. I guess I'm just used to the higher quality service found at EBGames.

Consumer's always right is so 1990.

What you can do with vote with your wallet. Just stop pre-ordering from them if they screw you over.

I won't be pre-ordering from toysrus again if I have to have the game day 1.

Also, you could try emailing bestbuy execs, that most likely get a better response than complaining to the cashiers.

Tried finding the email's for any Best Buy Canada execs but couldn't. So I went in and filed two complaints. First I mailed Best Buy but the lady at the check out had given me a customer response number to fill out a survey and comment on the service I got today. So I let Best Buy have it in both the survey and the email. Apparently they will respond soon.

Its just stupid that they want people to pre-order through them but offer such vastly inferior service. Infact when I pre-ordered Halo Reach through FutureShop even they called me to inform me it was in and Future Shop and Best Buy are owned by the same company. Lets see what Best Buy customer service says in response!
