Amazon revealed it's "gold box" deal which offered sony's 160gb ps3 for $199 for the day, the deal sold out in a matter of minutes(amazon had to discontinue the deal), maybe they weren't expecting high demand costing them money selling it for $199, guess there must be demand for a $199 ps3

A $199 PS3 would set the chartz on fire.

it's likely sony may cut ps3's price near black friday, just like microsoft did when they cut 360 to $199, would help them sell a lot of consoles potentially sell outs

I have been wanting to get one and at $199 I would.

I guess Sony will cut the price at Gamescom in August... just like 2009 .

id even predict that the PS3 would be far beyond 360's weekly sales if they really cut the price to 199$, but i DONT think thatll happen, Sony would loose to much money on that. More realistic is 249$ for the Holiday Season, and 199$ with some exclusive Retailers for very limited time.

@Gamescom; Good guess, i think that too. (Or they Bundle upcoming Blockbusters with the Console for 299$.. i could even Imagine UC+UC2+UC3+PS3 for 299$ with a quanity of half a million Consoles.. fucking think about that hell of a bundle..)

Why you think Sony will lost money with a $199 PS3? The last price cut was in 2009 and the Slim already had no cost for Sony... after that there was shrink of Cell and RSX.

In 2010 had a research showing Sony profit ~$30 per console at $299... maybe is possible in one year to cut the cost in more $70.

If Sony permanately dropped the price to $199, they would have a tough time keeping up with demand. They would really have to ramp up production to do it.
