Forums - Sales Discussion - 360 Numbers don't add up!

@ Erik: I distinctly see a post above where people are taking the NPD data and adding in 15% to account for NA. If I'm wrong, what is the 15% for? Either way, vgcharts is adding in 15% off the NPD totals. Something I got poo-pooed for when I tried to go above 10%, and it was repeatedly beat into my head here that EVERYBODY knows this imaginary 10% rule. So, why the difference? Why is everybody else adding in another 5%, but at the same time ridiculing me when I said it had to be over 10%?

Have you done it yet ? =D

@Monty Well at least in Gothenburg, second largest town in Sweden (were I come from), all the resellers seem to have a lot of xbox360 in stock. I would guess that they avarage around 25 units per store, and sweden is a very small market. The xbox360 only sold 10k units here the week before december. Which can be compared to the ps2 30k. The xbox360 is for the moment being outsold by the ps2. I do belive that there might be 2.5 million units on the road and in stock or on the roads. I mean Nintendo stated that they had shippe 2 millions to USA and the total number for november and december ended around 1.2 milljon...were is the rest? If nintendo can have "lost" 800k units during nov-dec and be totaly sold out, I wounder why xbox360 can't have 1.2-1-5 units "lost" in transist and sitting on shelves in USA alone, and if you have that, why should it not be possible to have another 1 million in EU? I mean EU has some really large countries such as UK, France and Germany. Then add the nordic countries, spain, italy and so on. 2.5 million is nothing... I do belive that the number on the front is as accurate as you can get them for Japan and USA. I do not know about the others but Microsofts strong market has always been USA.

Buy it and pray to the gods of Sigs: Naznatips!

Haha, some major sock - eating is in order I think !!

Wii_gamer said: 15% is not being added, 15% is how X360 numbers for NA on the front page as of mid Jan compare to NPD numbers for USA at the end of 2006. ~30% is how Wii and PS3 numbers compare - the difference mainly being because the Jan sales so far compared to LTD sales for each console form a bigger proportion for Wii and PS3 since their LTDs are smaller. 150k / 1 million is a bigger percentage than 150k / 4 million for example (4 times in fact). So what we are really doing is all confusing ourselves over different data covering different markets over different time frames. As for PS3 selling the Dec 31st shipment - I don't think it is unreasonable that with around 750k sold at the end of Dec in NA and with over 1 million shipped by then that PS3 has probably sold over 100k in Jan so far, and Wii as many as have been shipped (could be 100k - 200k maybe?) and that X360 has sold a typical Jan-following-a-December-of-1m-amount, or around 250-300 for whole of Jan or 150k so far. These are all pretty reasonable figures to me, the whole percentage argument has surely been put to rest now?
You guys might want to rejig your PS3 estimates for Japan (30%?? maybe more like 8%), according to the new numbers, they sold less this week then last week. Also off topic - Woot for Gears of Wars making the top 10 in Japan, not sure if the other games had a slow week in sales or something but I thought that was pretty cool!

30% is for NA not Japan. Japan numbers come in weekly so no need to estimate for the week.

Well then you still need to rejig your numbers because according to the new sales figures in Japan they're too high.

By how much? A weeks worth what is today in the cycle? I don't work for them so I don't know how they do thing exactly. So what you want them to do is mark it down today then in two days mark it back up to where it is at now? Why? What is your motives Gears of Wars fan? Hmmm . . . By the way they are off by less then 4% not even the 8% you wanted.

According to which figures they are too high??
