I find eve online to be the best MMO. As far as starting goes it can be brutal but it has the best end game content by far as it is not based on circular logic - grind for better gear to grind with to get better gear....

Also CCP listen to the community and aren't stuck in the dark ages. They are bringing in true DX11 features soon (tesselation) and the community is generally more mature then others out there, somewhat due to the unforgiving nature of the game.

I use to play FFXI, started playing in 05 and clocked just over 400 earth days. I stopped playing just after the level cap got raised to 85. The game lost its appeal to me probably from to many hours spent.
Also the leveling system changed, the level sync was a great idea but it also enabled people to level without learning how to really play although this was amusing watching people do the most retarded stuff when I did events outside of my linkshell. Back when it was the grind to 75 and you sat with your flag up for hours waiting for a exp pt, then you finally got the invite or put one together you were so happy that you didn't wanna leave and would pt all night if you could. And you would really fine tuned your playing skills.
Saying this though I have some awesome memories from this game and being from Australia I made some real life friends from the US, Canada, Italy and Japan that I still talk to today. I don't regret the time I spent playing though I do laugh from memories such as flying down the freeway to get back home from work to log on...

I think Guild Wars and perhaps Tera has a huge following. Anyone wants to give Blade and Soul a try? When I first saw the trailer in 2007, I'd decided this was the game I'll playing.

Runescape - 7 years
Tales of Pirates - 2 years
Maplestory - 4 years

Not playing any MMOs at the moment and i'm not sure I ever will.

Only 3 I really enjoyed were Ragnarok Online, World of Warcraft, & Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

Ragnarok Online I played a ton between 2003-2008 (First on the official international server, then on privately hosted ones) And then again for a while in 2011-2012.

World of Warcraft I had played at launch up until Burning Crusade, and then again for a bit during Wrath of the Lich King. Started up again recently to see catch up on how the game plays before the new expansion comes out.

Final Fantasy XIV I played since launch, but quit after a few months because it was such a bad game. Resubbed for A Realm Reborn, and played for a while before letting my sub run out again. Just didn't have the time to play :/

OT: Now that i'm here i feel the need to answer the question :p Have been playing FF14: ARR for a while now and am still loving it. Currently spamming fireworks with my static in Ul'dah :D
