Honestly are you having Fun playing games right now?

Because what got me thinking when recollecting my memories of playing online shooters over the past years is i barely had any fun over that period of time and that it was mainly fustrating grind full of rage quits. Also that when you are doing something over and over you may get into an phase of just playing games for the sake of playing games, you really get no statifisfaction or joy or entertainment from playing them you just progress though the game.

I say its very interesting topic because there are many things in life you just get bored of, video games are no exception. But we do have the luxary of having multiple types of games and are able to swtich between vareity with ease and recapture the fun and joy from games once more.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

That's when it's time to become a developer :) To make the games we would like people to enjoy. I'm kind of joking, but really that's why I started the "What would your ultimate Zelda game look like" thread. There are lots of things some of us really want to see in games that we're not getting at the moment. I just played through most of FFIV and played SSIV competitively lately, and I found the FFIV ds remake to be exactly what I wanted in the remake, i.e. an improved script and nicely improved (not overly improved) visuals, and tougher battles. So I've been really enjoying myself lately. I didn't get the same luck in the past I find. My trick lately has been to find a few games you're almost sure to love, and buy them second hand if possible, because they really aren't worth much more than 15 to 20$ honestly, not even the best ones, and to stick to one until it's finished, and push even beyond the boring parts. My expectations have also lowered in the past year, so it helps me enjoy the game as it is, and accept its flaws. That's me lately.

I just got done with a period of gaming where I was just playing games I felt I had to.  Games like Star Ocean, AOE Online and Mirrors Edge.  They aren't necessarly frustrating or bad, but I just wasn't getting that 'addicted' feeling and literally feel asleep once or twice on them.

To get me out of this funk, I decided to go out and buy games I really wanted to play.  Like Kirby's Epic Yarn, Red Dead Redemption, Valkyria Cronicles and Assassins Creed Brotherhood.  And as a result, I'm having tons of fun and can't put them down.

Sometimes you need a little funk to make you appreciate the good games.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

I think gaming is getting better, and I am having more fun as time goes on (and I get more into it), but in saying that the good games are becoming harder to find. I dont play shooters, or online, so I cant comment there. It seems these days that there are so many games coming out all the time of which you have to search really hard to find the good ones. Sort of a 'needle in the haystack' effect if you will. There are so many games these days that are so heavily promoted or have opinions decided for them long before they come out (eg the idea that uncharted 3 will be awesome, or the new Tomb raider will be disliked by all except 'fangirls like me) that it seems it creates even more disappointment when most of them arrive and fil to meet the lofty heights the magazines/internet/developers (in the case of obsessive self promoters like Bioware (case in point: Dragon Age 2 will be better than Baldurs Gate 2, joke of the decade!!!)) said they would. These days I commonly find the best games I played barely get reviewed (Ateliers) or overly harshly reviewed (Final Fantasies).

In my opinion I think its not a case of games not being as fun, but that there are a lot more not so fun games getting heavily hyped month in and month out. People buy these, more often than not get disappointed and start to believe that gaming on the whole is getting worse. Its the excess of quantity of releases (most not as 'cool' as the hype train promised) beginning to affect peoples perception of overall quality of all games

Thats just my opinion, I am Having great fun with gaming, more than ever in fact. I just purchase very few games and try to avoid impulse/hype related purchases I didnt really want that will just end up disappointing me (like L.A Noire).

Most of my greatest gaming memories are from playing online shooters.

Rpgs are still fun to me, I play some shooters but I really don't have fun with em. I think I'm burned out from online gaming, I find myself a lot more addicted to single player games with a lot to offer.

"I don't know what this Yamcha is, but it sounds just like Raditz."

I honestly find it hard to believe that you can get bored of gaming! Yet again maybe it's not exactly your thing, but one thing's for sure gaming is fun at least to me.
