I think so true.

This is the perfect example. People compare GT5 visuals with Uncharted 2 and God of War 3 visuals. That's like comparing GT5 sales with God of War or Uncharted sales. GT out sold them both in 4 weeks despite they being one of the strongest exclusive sellers for the PS3. GT5 has great visuals and easily one of the best looking PS3 games. If people say Reach has good visuals why doesn't GT5? It's not the best, it's defintley not the worst but it's still great

I think it looks great at some points, but then other times it just isn't that impressive.  I do think the cockpit views are awesome though

on topic: ironically Gt5 is kind of like Crysis in a way. at times it has drop dead gorgeous graphics. Gt5 can just look Photorealistic at times, the premium cars far surpase everything, but like Crysis 2, it has lots of inconsitancies, and though to not the same extent as Crysis, it has some performance issues (though that has a lot to do with it running in native 1080p, 60fps target, and rendering 16 cars on screen. if Gt5 would have went with a 720p (or even slightly lower like crysis) native resolution, and 8 cars instead of 16, it would look a lot more uniform, yes the cars would look nearly as good, but other stuff would have looked better.

but in all its a great looking game, and its very impressive that it it the only game that can pull off native 1080p, 16 cars, and ~60 FPS

Some of the old tracks don't look as good as the new ones, but as HD remakes they hit all the right notes. It's like driving the first GT again in HD. They look crisp and sharp and still exactly as how I remember them.

The view distance and sense of scale on Eigernordwand K trail is simply amazing. The accuracy and attention to detail on the real world tracks is unmatched. The city tracks look stunning mostly thanks to the incredible lighting. The day to night transitions and weather effects on Nurburgring and Sarthe are amazing.

That's probably why the lesser things like some ugly standard cars (not all standard cars look bad), bad shadows and water effects stand out.

And it's all running in 1280x1080 at 60fps. That's pushing 3 times as many pixels per second as Uncharted 2.

The graphics are fine, unless you were retarded enough to think that the game would look as good as all the bullshots/photomode bullshots that were released.

In this case, the retardism was rampant.

I'll admit though - some tracks are noticeably more detailed than others, but it doesn't bother me too much.

The sound is what bothered me most. It's just pure crap on some cars. Not very much candy for the ears in GT5 =/

Again, we can nitpick Crysis 2 if we're going to pull this argument. No, I don't think GT5 is consistent enough to be considered best graphics, but still...

imo, I the graphics are inconsistent. 2D trees, the cars that aren't premium look bleh to ok.

The graphics are poor to ok to good to fantastic. Depending on the race and conditions. But inconsistency takes away from the package as a whole.

For me this applies to the game as a whole. though the foundation is great, some of the design choices made just boggles my mind

I'm not really a hardcore racing-simulation person. I could see how people love this. But I've  only put 20 hours into 3 racing games before becoming bored (The Wipeout Series, GT3, And Mario Kart). It didn't leave a lasting impression on me.

the graphics aren't great. It failed for so many people at this point because GT series has been characterized for having the best graphics of its generation. The only impressive thing in GT5 are premium cars, they look GORGEOUS. But everything else is kinda "meh".
