Forums - Sony Discussion - Zipper hit by layoffs

Too many shooters in the market perhaps?

For MAG that could be an excuse, but for an existing IP like socom... no.

Damn.. Sony's teams have been hit hard the last few months, London Studio, Studio Liverpool and Evolution studios restructured/layoffs in March... SOE's Denver, Seattle and Tucson studios closed end march.. SOE San Diego, Austin people layoffs.. now Zippper layoffs...

yes I don't care about Cohort Studios.. I know they also closed.. buzzzzzzzzz..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Good riddance. When you drive a series like SOCOM to the ground by selling out your old fans, and release an unfinished game like MAG, you deserve no less.

Unless it was Sony who pressured them to take this route...which I'm kind of feeling is the case here (since so many games all around are being designed with mainstream appeal in mind)....

Ah well. We'll find out later on.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

After Socom 4, this doesn't bother me at all....

yay more people unemployed, just what the USA needs. Oh well, economic disaster is imminent.

Meanwhile they just bought out Media Molecule and their exclusive deals with EatSleepPlay(Twisted Metal) and LightBox (StarHawk) are coming to fruition.

Some studios NEED to be restructured. We definitely didn't need a 3rd MotorStorm game, and sales are showing that. MAG and Socom 4 are both games I have played and both were disappointing.

Zipper had 150 employees yet their games this gen feel like they were made by low-budget start up developers. MAG production values weren't even as good as Homefront which was pretty cheap feeling in it's own right.

Am I the only one who loved MAG? :(

They have a shit game engine IMO there games look awful worse the call of dutys 5-6 year old engine and it doesnt do anything new, and im not just blaming the engine they are also poor developer

Like it isn't already happening for the US.

No natural resources, no major maufacturing presence and top class engineers and sciencists are being pumped out of US/UK/AUS/European Univerisitys and shipped back to Asia, having local students miss out in the thousands. An economy that relies entirely on Serivices is a disaster waiting to happen. Luckly being Australian we have mining to support us. If we didn't have that we would be in an hole like you americans.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

This sucks, MAG was a great game sure it didn't play like COD but it wasn't meant to it's a unique and fun FPS it deserved to do much better.

Hope the layoffs aren't too bad
