R.I.P. The Grinder

After seeing this Classic Game Room review of Conduit 2, I don't see why it would be thought of as anything worth one's time, unless you are a fan of the first, or REALLY in need of an FPS and don't own a PS3 or 360:

I say this, because Classic Game Room is usually very kind to games it reviews, and usually looks to leave everything in a positive light.

And checking further, it bears out also in Gamerankings (around 70 overall):

http://www.gamerankings.com/wii/991817-conduit-2/index.html

And also Metacritic (68 by critics, low 70s by readers):

http://www.metacritic.com/game/wii/conduit-2

In short, it looks like a forgettable title, which is why Sega isn't promoting it.  Release it in the market and hope it makes the money back, believing that it really doesn't offer much to the FPS market, outside of people who only have Wii titles.

The issue most of us are having with reviews is that they're rating the game lower than the original, which absolutely is not the case (though i disagree with a few of their choices, like tying your available weapons to your profile instead of voting on which weapons you'd use per match like before) otherwise the game goes well above and beyond the original, which meta isn't reflecting

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

@famousringo doesnt explain why there are no ads from Sega

@gamerace that whole "adult male thing" was always crap IMHO. Lets be real if one cared that much about FPSs then they wouldnt be playing on Wii at least not exclusively. Unless they were real Ninty zealots. Really, they should have just gotten better devs, HVS is b rated at best. If your gonna make an FPS on Wii it needs to be great or at the very least as good as an average HD shooter. and HVS is not a great team, no matter how much they think they are. As for being grateful, Im a multiplat owner i could care less if Wii gets a FPS or not im indifferent, theres more than enough on PS3, probably too damn much. Im just surprised that Sega who was such a strong Wii supporter, moreso than any other 3rd party would send it out to die so badly.I ve never seen a sequel get this little attention since the the sequel to Rival Schools on DC

@Mr. Khan  i think with the original it was so hyped and so much hope was riding on it that it was overscored by some and now that the newness is gone they are just meh to the whole thing or another explanation could simply be that these reveiwers who looked at part 2 never even played the original and are judging against other FPSs, that could really cause some problems. I would say try to find a reviewer who reveiwed the original and is reviewing the new one

I rented the first game. I won't be getting the second game. To be honest, I preferred playing The Conduit to the HD console FPS games because I liked using the Wiimote more than dual analogs. But first-person shooters are really not my thing anyway (I only tried it because I wanted to see if a Wiimote shooter would change my mind). Plenty of other games on the Wii that I'd rather try.

Well, he could have said that in the beginning and I'd save my time watching his review. Who plays an FPS on Wii using anything but the Wiimote? I would tell you who but I don't wanna get banned for language.

Okay - an idiot, that's who.

What difference does it make? Its the same game either way.

I haven't found shooters anymore enjoyable with a Wiimote. More frustrating if anything.

First of all, just to make it clear, I have no problem with a bad rating for any game (even if it's my favourite) if the reviewer has good reasons for it. Also, I was not a big fan of the first Conduit (and never played C2).

Now to your question - Most FPSes are built with precision aiming in mind. Because of the increasing popularity of consoles, developers came up with various techniques to make these games enjoyable with dual analog controls - for example, even if your aiming is slightly imprecise, you will still hit the target, and you can have some sort of auto-aim so that you don't need to aim at all (or not so much). There are FPS games out there that have their gameplay built around dual analog controls (Metroid Prime comes to mind, although that one is not technically an FPS). However, games like Call of Duty and also Conduit are still the same precision-centered FPSes, and as a result, with the dual analog controls their gameplay is dumbed down. You can tell the difference when you play CoD on DualShock3 and on Wiimote with auto-aim switched off (better yet, with a mouse and keyboard combo). It's the same game, but the gameplay is very different.

I agree that playing an FPS on Wiimote can be frustrating - until you optimize the controls for yourself. I did, and I don't ever want to get back to dual analog, unless gyroscopic controls are even better.

A mediocre game is mediocre regardless of the controls you're using.

That wasn't the context of the comment you made before.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Perhaps Sega was stuck with a publishing contract for the game and the devs in their turn had nowhere else to go?
