This comes out to be 810,000 units sold worldwide.  And while you may not consider that a lot...consider that when the game came out, people were predicting it was a failure selling just 400,000 units.  If the current sales show anything, its that this game does indeed have legs, selling twice as much as its first months sales, and still rising steadily.

Were do you get that from?

From the thousands of 'Other M killed Metroid' threads that followed its release...

I'm not talking about the predictions.  I'm talking about what people were saying about the game 3-4 weeks after it launched.  If anything, the comments about Metroid 'failing' came from people who were guessing it would sell that high before.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

Well the dropping legs made it evident that it wasn't going to outsell any of the Prime games. Furthermore, the fan reaction and inability to move systems showed the game wasn't catching on.

So while not a bomb, it was not a success.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

As KylieDog said, the game was quickly in the bargain bin, when Nintendo games are known for maintaining their shelf price.

And lol at "positive word of mouth". If it really had positive word of mouth it wouldn't have been so frontloaded. The truth is it had negative word of mouth which is why you saw it on used shelves for pennies.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

You seem to be setting low standards to work in its favour. I personally wouldn't call 2 * launch a game with legs and the game sells just barely while at bargain prices today.

I want to forget I ever made that prediction... I thought it would be quite successful in Japan compared to previous games in the series... And now I just look like a twat.

Well did you think the game would be like this at the time? If not, then you can excuse that. If you did, then you really overestimated the appeal of that kind of game.

I, like many, enjoyed Other M, and it's a good entry in the series, provided you can get past the dodgy dialogue and story...

The hate always seemed to be  OTT for my liking, many people who hate on the game probably haven't played it (and I know this for a fact).

I say 1.4mil is likely, if it continues selling as it is for another year, like most Nintendo games. And Nintendo will be fine with that.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

At the time we didn't know much about the game.  I thought it probably get a metascore of about 91 and would be the first metroid game in recent years to perform well in Japan.

I didn't predict the low sales from Europe either.

And? What else is new? I've had plenty of games I like that I know haters haven't played as well.

And your number has a problem that a lot of games without legs stop selling significantly after a year.

I refuse to buy any more 3D Metroid games, I was fooled by Metroid Prime which turned out to be very boring - It's like being in Zelda's most boring dungeon, except it is the entire game. The game had nice graphics though, but that is the only thing I can say I enjoyed about it.

I think the sales will continue to decline with each iteration of the series. Most people probably gave up on the series after the first 3D game.

It is supposed to be an FPS/Adventure/platformer

* People do not want an FPS with slow and unresponsive aiming
* People do not want an adventure with only one bland character and no story
* People do not want a platformer where you can't see your character's feet, let alone the entire character

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
