Forums - PC Discussion - Super Street Fighter IV Arcade and Street Fighter X Tekken coming to PC

Dear God, give me strength.

What games exactly, have skipped the PC because of piracy? Please tell me.

UFC 2011 (which is an INCREDIBLE game), Dante's Inferno, Final Night Round, Bayonetta, Mortal Kombat, Top Spin 4, the newer Rock Band and Guitar Hero games, Marvel vs Capcom 3, Madden NFL (newer games), Tekken 6, Brutal Legend, Condemned 2, etc etc etc.

And please... piracy on PC isn't the same thing as piracy on xbox360/ps3. If you play pirated games on your xbox 360 you will have your system banned, so that's why people will buy original games even if you can play pirated games on your xbox 360.

Even Capcom said that they wouldn't release Super Street Fighter IV for PC due to piracy, but now they are giving a second chance.

As far as I can see, the PC gets pretty much all of the multi-plats, along with more exclusives than all the consoles put together. What it doesn't get is $50 million exclusives with huge marketing budgets. But there again, it never fucking did. And neither would any of the 'hd' consoles if their backers didn't money-hat devs.

Hisiru named a few there. Don't forget Capcom said they didn't want to bring SSFIV to the PC due to the massive piracy of the SFIV.

On top of that, why do you think the PC gets a lot of late ports? Piracy.

Reading through all of the links you provided it is just the same as you. A whole lot of people talking out of their asses without jack shit to back them up. The best argument you can find is the one talking about China, but the developer there actually says that he aims to compete with Microsoft. Basically, he is a fucking idiot.

Show me a link that shows that piracy means that sales were lost. Nothing you have provided shows me anything about piracy. All you have shown me is that even developers don't know shit about the actual numbers.

What do you think the publishers and developers are trying to say? Are you seriously under the illusion games freely and easily distributed on the web has no impact on sales? Crysis 2 and Bulletstorm were on the web before they were even released. You don't think people decided to save money and go that route instead?

Music and DVDs don't sell like they used too thanks to piracy. I'm a computer technician and any technician will tell you they see unsavvy computer users stealing music, movies, programs, etc. A lot of them don't even realize they are doing something illegal. Yet you genuinely don't believe that same trend is not affecting PC games either?

So presumably the piracy problem has either magically disappeared, or there never really was a problem in the first place.

All your list is, is a bunch of very console-centric games that never made it to the PC, and you haven't supplied a single quote from any of their developers stating that the PC version was passed on due to piracy. As a random example, here are some quotes from Tim Schafer about Brutal Legend, nothing about piracy there. A few of those games' predecessors sold poorly on the PC (Condemned, Madden, Rock Band), so likely weren't deemed viable for PC sequels. Not every game is going to get released on every platform, despite some developers' best efforts to homogenise games into some lowest common denominator mush.

Funnily enough, another game in your list, Dante's Inferno, was downloaded over 1.25 million times last year according to TorrentFreak, becoming the most pirated 360 title of the year. In general, XBox piracy rates run at about 30-40% of PC piracy rates, and 360 games are often available for download much earlier than the PC version, so no, it's not as widespread, but it's still very significant and it's increasing.

red dead redemption & DLC, castlevania lord of shadows, vanquish, Rockband 1, 2, 3, Marvel vs Capcom 3, De blob 2, Top Spin 4, FFXIII, Enslaved, Ninja Gaiden 2, Brutal Legend, RE5 Gold Edition, Tekken 6, Madden NFL 2010, Eternal Sonat, NHL 2010, and probably lots more.

Also, many games can release 6 months later on pc...didn't Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood release 2 weeks ago or so on pc? Fable 3 yet to come out on pc too.

Edit: No gears of war 2, Alan Wake, Fable 2, Halo 3, Halo reach on pc either...

Gears 1 was on pc why isnt its sequel on pc too?

Alan wale was originally slated for pc but was cancelled later (lol....)

Fable 2...again fable was released at a later date on pc as was halo 1 and 2...so where is fable 2 and other halo games???

It's fanboy nonsense to believe PC gets all mutli-platform games.

It is indeed. Which is why I never said it gets all of the multi-plats, it does get a very healthy number of them, though. As for Microsoft, after realising PC gamers wouldn't pay for its woeful Live service, they stopped making PC games almost entirely (I believe Sony have made more PC games over the last few years than Microsoft) and concentrated on XBox exclusives instead. If I were a Microsoft shareholder, I'd be wondering why they've allowed themselves to be completely blindsided by the apparently massively profitable Steam, while simultaneously pouring money away on the 360.

As I said above, not every game is viable on every platform, and most of the games in your list are very console-oriented. While it is very possible to hook your PC up in your lounge, and play local co-op, it's not that common a set-up, thus many games of that ilk are going to be more suited to consoles and to be played with controllers.

Starcraft 2, The Witcher and its sequel, the Total War series, the Warhammer games, God knows how many MMOs, almost the entire output of Paradox, Civilization, the King's Bounty series- none of these have made it to console. Why? Because similarly, they're not a good fit. They're much better played with a mouse and keyboard and the audience for them is mainly on the PC.

Where the lines are blurred, and games fit both, such as first and third person shooters in particular, then the PC usually gets a port. Piracy really is a red herring, an excuse offered up by publishers to excuse the crap sales performance of their latest game, or to justify their latest anti-consumer scheme. If it was a real problem, then nothing would get made, and given the prevalence of piracy, and especially zeo day piracy on the 360, it would be getting games canned as well. The real problem for a lot of the big publishers is the 'AAA' Hollywood-style business model they have, where even big sales often don't make a game profitable.

Yet you genuinely don't believe that same trend is not affecting PC games either?

All they see is their game not selling, and being somewhat pirated. I hate to break your bubble, but there are countless of reasons why a game may not be selling, generally the biggest one is the game being shitty and not worth the asking price.

Also right there what I bolded is a false, utterly false, statement. I have provided you with many links showing you data that the staement is wrong. Well, unless you don't count streaming services and stuff as DVDs, because then you are right. Streaming services and netflix are just MURDERING the sales of DVDs. Also what you bolded is also pretty good indication that certain industries don't know shit about their own sales and just like to bitch. Album sales have been plummeting, but you know what has been skyrocketing? Single-track digital sales. Which basically means a consumer doesn't want all the shit that an album comes with, just the really good songs.

Show me a link showing that piracy is equal to lost sales. I dare you. Because as I shown already, I have the US, Dutch, and Japanese governments saying one of the following a) it helps the economy, b) can't find any evidence of loss of sales, or c) actually is beneficial for the given pirated industry. Then there was the 400 page study which discussed WHY people pirate, which basically came down to "they don't see the game as having the value of the asking price." Basically translated, the game fucking sucks dick for $60.
