Forums - Sony - Just got PS3 Slim this morning, I need help, FAST!!!

I got my PS3 Slim (160GB) this morning and im planning on giving my old 80GB phat model to my sister, but i have a few qeustions. Is it possible to transfer or copy data from PS3 phat HDD on Slim HDD? How do I do that? Please post some tutorial videos if you can. Or can i just switch hard drives with PHAT and Slim models? Or do i have to start up my Slim and do all the instructions first and than mess with the hard drives? Please help me out.

Go to the system settings on your ps3 and choose the option to backup your data. All you need is a USB device that has enough storage capacity. Depending on how much you want to back up, probably a external HD or if just some saves anything will do.

Just remember that if you use an HD is has to be formatted in FAT32.

A. Connect the two PS3's with an ethernet cable. Transfer from one to another

B. Create an image of the old hard drive. Copy this to a USB drive (size depends on what you gonna copy, I suggest copy only the saves and the very small installs. This way the size will be around 3.7gb). Then plug the USB to the slim and restore data.

From the horse's mouth, so to speak...

@Cthulhu - You don't mean a disk image lol - you mean transfer your unlocked saves. You'll need to be Failoverflow or GeoHot for a drive image to work in a different PS3

Do the ethernet thing. I did it a few months ago and it went well. I deleted almost everything that was not savegames, because I did it to transfer the protected ones to my new PS3. You will need your PS3's to have the same firmware.

do it with ethernet. find some tips on youtube.

*MAKE SURE YOU DELETE EVERYTHING THATS ISNT SAVE FILES, I MEAN EVERYTHING. WILL TAKE TO LONG OTHERWISE.

both ps3`s need to be connected to tv to do it, goto transfer to ps3 setting and set one as "sender" then other as "reciver" after a few goes you will get hang of it.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

what the heck is ethernet?

Why is everypne telling me to delete everything but save files. I want to copy my data from my phat PS3 HDD to Slim's HDD. And by that, even all Game installs, so i wont have to install all the games when i start them up again.

I dunno how the data transfer thing is working these days, but something is stuffed about the back up facility for me. I keep getting an 800 error message that says the back up can't be completed. So I just copied my game saves in order to preserve them, but some game saves you can't copy because they have a copyright protection on them. Dumb as there's bugger all you can do with a game save unless you have the game, so what sort of copyright is there to protect?
