Forums - Sales Discussion - NGP could outperform 3DS if price, innovation and games are right

February 11, 2011 by RawmeatCowboy Filed Under: Nintendo in general3DS

“Sony has to stay sub-£300. It can justify up to £300 with all the capabilities the NGP has, but anything above that – forget it. If Sony can expand on its innovative touch pad with the right amount of Android games, then the machine may even outperform the Nintendo 3DS.” - CHIPS joint MD Don McCabe

That's a lot of factors for Sony to get right. Hell, that's a lot of factors for Nintendo to get right as well! The price is really the only thing we have to go on right now, and we only know half the story!

I strongly disagree with the Android part, I don't see that as being of any threat to Nintendo at all. Sony will need the 'right' price $350< and advertisement that seperates it from the 3DS. They also need games. Sony has its franchises but it needs something 'fresh' that the casual crowd can eat on.

Nintendo knows this. That is why Nintendogs and Cats is being released early on luanch.

CAN ANYONE GUESS WHAT NGP'S FINAL NAME WOULD BE???

I still think it would be given the PSP2 title.

Its gonna be hard as this time the DS has the more powerful brand name which can harm the prospects of PSP2.

Its really on what kind of word of mouth the 3D has for 3DS and the price of the PSP2.

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

No way.... I mean...what a shocker!!

Nintendo has to completely abandon their innovation and games and go on vacation for a year for NGP to beat it.

Honestly, since we know that 3DS will be $250 at launch, will have all its features and will have Nintendogs, Pokemon, 2D Mario and Brain Age and we know that NGP has ridiculously high specs and no handheld franchises anywhere near those of Nintendo in sales power, no matter what (in realistic terms) NGP does, it ain't gonna outsell the 3DS.

...well, of course, I could be wrong. But it's far from likely.

Either the NGP will have installments of the major third party series already announced for the 3DS, or not. (FF, DQ, KH, Resi, MGS, AC).

If it doesn't, it automatically loses because it has no games.

If it does, it's likely they won't be ports of the 3DS version or vice versa. So it comes down to which platform the developers put more effort into. It's hard to say which that is going to be.

So, can you see any of the games I listed being better on the NGP, or better on the 3DS?

Have you forgotten that the PSP beat the DS in its first year?

That was when the PS brand was mighty and undefeatable, PSP had way more support and the DS was too ugly to bear.

None of that applies here.

first off i know i'm late, but welcome back darth.

gamecube anyone $99.99? (love that console)

but i do agree that the price has to be lower then $300.00, while some may say (hey whts 50 bucks?)

Sony needs big hits for both the hardcore crowd and the casual, and not recycled returns/matterial/games that exist on other platforms.

as for me its going to be harder for Sony to get me (as it will for the big 3 as a whole in the future/next gen)

20 games(up 5) that are not repeats of existing franchises, that innovate, and use the NGP to its fullest.
