Forums - Gaming Discussion - Confirmed: Guitar Hero killed, True Crime cancelled

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-02-09-acti-explains-guitar-hero-true-crime-cull

The Guitar Hero franchise has been officially killed off following consistent decline in the music sector, Activision has announced.

"Due to continued declines in the music genre, the company will disband Activision Publishing's Guitar Hero business unit and discontinue development on its Guitar Hero game for 2011," explained a statement from the publisher.

Redundancies at series developer Vicarious Visions have not been officially confirmed.

Activision also confirmed that forthcoming open-world action title True Crime: Hong Kong has been axed, though its explanation for that decision was rather less coherent.

"The company also will stop development on True Crime: Hong Kong. These decisions are based on the desire to focus on the greatest opportunities that the company currently has to create the world's best interactive entertainment experiences."

I thought it was worth creating a new thread for to avoid the confusion. Anyway, confirmed!

Never played True Crime so I don't know if it deserves to be axed but I sure know I'm not gonna miss Guitar Hero.

Signature goes here!

I'm glad GH is gone, anyway it would have just kept dropping anyway

They should've seen this coming with all the milking they did.

Who's the best Pac, Nas, and Big. Just leave it to that.

PLAYSTATION®3 is the future.....NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

Slaughterhouse Is The Sh*t  .... NOW ........ B_E_L_I_E_V_E

People complain that companies milk sequels...then the say "guitar hero killed" because its missing a year. Make up your mind people!

Just cause its missing 1 year release doesn't mean its killed.

Oups, mistake.

It's killed. The statement says they're disbanding the Guitar Hero business which includes stopping development on the GH game set for release this year.

i still love rock band but i'm glad to see the milking ceased.

I was a huge fan of the Guitar Hero series right up until Guitar Hero World Tour.  The silly gimmicks, ridiculous note charting and frankly way too many crap filler tracks means its got the end it deserved.  The only two games they made that were decent were Guitar Hero 3, mainly due to the excellent track list and only slightly bad charting and Guitar Hero Metallica because even Activision couldn't screw up a music game with that track list (in a Metallica fans eyes of course).

Long live Rock Band!

Did you only read the "Guitar Hero KIlled" part and not rest? The company was disbanded.

OT:

I'm kinda glad actually, maybe Rock Band (The superior and excellent/consistent/innovative franchise) will get the recognition it most definitely deserves now. Guitar Hero started getting pretty awful after GH 3 in 2007. Many people can agree on that. Rock band has actually gotten better after each entry, especially Rock Band 3, since you can actually learn real guitar and play real guitar on it & Keyboard!

Odd. Future. Wolf. Gang. Kill. Em. All. OFWGKTA Don't give a fuck!

Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be the GREATEST game EVER made!!!
