Forums - Sony Discussion - 3.56 Update – Breaks PS3 Homebrew

UPDATE 1

Confirmed: PS3 3.56 currently kills homebrew – installing over with current existing CFW’s does NOT work.

According to PSX-Scene the new update contains a new .SELF with an unknown KEY and all homebrew tools will have to be updated in order to restore their functionality. You can also read a log of what a few devs are thinking of v3.56 HERE.

UPDATE 2

Good ole’ KaKaRoToKS is hard at work in cracking the new firmware, updates from his Twitter:

isoldr keys are now pushed too.

lv1 and lv2 keys are now pushed to my ps3keys repo.. more coming : http://github.com/kakaroto/ps3keys

pup from ps3utils and puppack/pupunpack from ps3tools in github.com/kakaroto can now pack/unpack 3.56 correctly.

Stay tuned at PS3Hax for the fasted updates on the new firmware.

Don't tell them >.>

Until we get a 'license' system, they're just playing cat and mouse. Not very interesting.

i cant see this lasting long

Cool, now I try to get my hour and a half of video games in after working and it wants to download an update that is seeming to take an eternity...I'm going to be a really unhappy camper if Sony thinks they can just continue releasing updates to stop hackers...it WON'T WORK.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

Won't work indeed, it's absolutely useless. They need another strategy out the door, now.

Its not a bad strategy, require new games to support the latest firmware and have each firmware do something to stop pirates. Sure a new custom firmware will be out in a day or two, but then a ton of people need to download and update their PS3's with the new custom firmware. Personally id also look at some way to identify the previous firmware version and do a validly check before installing, and if the validly check fails, or isn't done in a reasonable time frame (eg. /- 15% the time it takes on test machines) then brick the console/kill it if possible.

so it's cracked again. hackers aren't helping gamers here. Sony would just focus on stopping piracy instead of working on new features anymore.

Just visited a couple of hacking forums, I've got to admit. They have the most flawed, ignorant logic I have ever read pertaining to gaming. If your a legitimate gamer and feel that you have been wronged by Sony in your purchase then by all means back lash with hacking to get your PS3 back. But, understand the risk that follows with it. For those who merely hack for the online supplements and game copys, get your grimy-f**k back away from my online experience and save up your money like an average citizen. What makes you so special, the internet? Pfffhhh, give me a break.

So the new FW is already cracked? It only took a few hours to find the keys apparently. According to the source above. (there was another update)
