RPGs overall have been lacking this generation and this game looks like it isn't going to do any justice.

Of course I can always get my Final Fantasy and Star Ocean fix from Square-Enix. However Nintendo is being retarded and doesn't want to localize very promising games. Also to me the WRPG genre is still as piss poor as it always have been excluding the Mass Effect games and MAYBE Dragon Age (for me).

Hopefully next generation they can amek a comeback.

No.

JRPG's are shrinking as a genre. And people, don't jump me with all that "but handheldzzzzzz" argument... the situation on the PSP and DS is less than stellar aside from a few exceptions...

This isnt true at all, JRPGs are still selling the same as they always did, people are just looking at the decline of a few big studios/series and ignoring all the up and coming ones. The sales giants like Square-Enix have lost have been picked up by smaller studios like Gust and even Idea Factory and compile heart, who have really stepped up their game this gen, even though people dont give them credit for it

Around the Network

Yes it looks great, i was wondering if anybody knew about this game.

This game does actually look really interesting, Might have to pick it up, have lost hope in Catherine and disgaea 4 and the last story is not looking that great either imo (i'm not a huge mistwalker fan at the best of times)

This and Ni no kuni will be the speculators for the year, have already beaten ar tonelico 3 and Atelier totori in japanese but will probably pick both up in english too.

Then the Square enix ones (FF type 0, FF13-2 and Versus 13) are the ones I am really looking forward to but god know when they will release, Knowing SE I am thinking decmber 29th just so i will hopefully be pleasantly surprised

I still wonder why people consider FF13's over 6 million sales as bad, I know many hardcore rpg fans (though granted many are female... and japanese) who loved it where Gust's  (my other favourite studios's) Atelier rorona did 'amazingly; (in gusts eyes) at 130,000 copies and got a sequel (though again mosty of the fanbase I know are the same Japanese (mainly) females). Its all perspective and there is just so much expectation around a title like FF that doesnt exist for something like a gust or NIS (or bioware or bethesda) game.

Rorona is great, it is one of my top 10 favourite games ever, but I don't expect FF level quality from it and I doubt anyone does. Of course in the western world its much more simple, I know mass effect will effectively be a rehash of knights of the old republic and dragon age will be NWN with very few changes so peopele know exactly what to expect, in quality level and gameplay. My theory is they are trying to make all their games so similar that they can do away with tutorials. Thats just my opinion but its the only reason I can see there would be value to making all your games so similar. The Japanees ones while commonly quite differnt to even others in their iown series still have consistent quality standards too. I think reviewer will continue to moan and FF will continue to dominate other RPG's in sales for a long time yet. There are other good series out there for sure, Its just that the level of scrutiny on them is a lot less. Its like the difference in pressure were mozart to release a new song versus whether miley cyrus to release a new song.

just my take on it anyway

<3 NISA

They should have a great year between bringing us Neptunia and bringing us Disgaea 4.

And Ar Tonelico 3!

And all of them are coming in Europe too :)

Well ok no official release date for Disgaea 4 but this one is 99,9% sure anyway considering D3 was released here.

Kinda pointless if you can import from NISA Store with all its goodies!

Importing from NISA store = shitload of money.

Being released in Europe means they will be below 20 pounds in few weeks.

I know, and still can't help but buy there for the random collector's items you get!

@making: Good point, TBH. I played XIII while glued to the TV - JRPG's need either the absolute perfection of the old, or introduction of the new. Looking at the titles I most enjoyed recently, the latter.

@sieg: No, no, not really... it's only major studios that have dropped the ball... Gust, Idea Factory, and all their relatives are doing the same as they were last gen...
