Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why do some people want to use motion controls for core games?

Motion control, if well implemented is more immersive, more confortable, it is more accurate for aiming, it allows you use your fingers for diffent actions, the problem is that there are not yet good examples of well implemented motion controls in core games (maybe prime and redsteel2 are the only ones), to be honest also the analog stick wasn't very useful in the Ps1 era, on Ps1...now we can't live without it.

because, as many noted before, if implemented well motion controls are better than standard controls. i hope they will be the standard control option for next gen.

I think IR controls can work a lot better than standard controls for a lot of core genres (particularly ones that involve wielding a gun).

That's because you're doing it wrong! Rest your arm on your lap instead of literaly pointing at the screen with your arm mid-air.

Wiimote Nunchuk combo is the best-ever controller setup, to me.

As many have already poined out the Wiimote and Nunchuck setup is very comforable to hold.  You just rest your arms on your knees or lap and slight twitches of the wrist are all you need for FPS gameplay.  Metroid Prime 3 and The Conduit are great examples of proper Wiimote control in an FPS.

Someone mentioned the turning speed being too slow... ramp it up in the options menu.  You can reduce your bounding box and then increase the rate of turn in most of the recent FPS releases on the Wii.  Redsteel 2 might be the best example of using Motion and IR in a game.  I loved that game and it really was unlike playing anything else on the market.  That experience could have only been realized with motion controls.  It felt great to really get into it physically (if you wanted to) and wail on an enemy that was giving you a good battle.  A multiplayer component would have been a blast.  Especially with split screen.  I can imagine pulling off special moves against a buddy only to have him counter with a parry or block.  Too bad people were too leery of giving it a shot, so we'll probably never get to try that. )-:

Using the Wiimote/Move/etc. for FPS games is only slightly worse than using a mouse. Meaning it is infinitely better than dual analog.

It takes almost no effort in a FPS to use the Wiimote/nunchuck. I played Goldeneye online for 5hrs the other evening. My hand was no more wore out from it than if I was using the Classic controller.

Pointing at the screen for hours isn't difficult because you rest the Wiimote holding arm/hand on your right knee. No effort needed!

All gaming systems, consoles/PC, have thier perks... why fight over preferences? I like Coke and you like Pepsi, that's it, let's not fight over which toy we like best cause that's what they are. Is someone's preference in a toy important or is the relationship between you and your neighbor more important? Answer is obvious, but THE most important thing is your relationship with God almighty. God Bless you in Jesus's name.

I can communicate without talking... I can send a loved one money without actually sending money... and I can commit theft without the product disappearing, the point of theft is the point of theft not one of it's possible symptoms which is the product dissappearing. The thief wants to gain something without paying for it, that's the point of theft, the thief doesn't have to care or anybody else has to care if the product dissappears. The product dissappearing is just a possible symptom of theft. Gifts are sacrfices, in order to give a gift, it has to be a genuine sacrfice/gift, meaning a copy of the game isn't still in your PC. Piracy is theft and/or being a culprit of theft.
