a bad sign of things to come for the PS3...

Have those PS3 games made profit yet?

Gundam Musou only available in Japan right now, and they sold only 230 k, far below 500 k to reach breakeven point. I don't know if Resistance or Ridge Racer has reached 500 k or not in ww sales.

This is not a good news for PS3 third party

Not at all. The ps3 is selling poorly for many reasons at this moment. It is due to the lack of games, and the high price. Both will change in 2 years. Gamecube on the otherhand didn't have a huge enough widespread between genres. Most of the games that sold, were through the same fanbase.  The genre was mostly everyone game. The wii needs to improve in making different games. They need to have a gran turismo, halo, or a gta inorder to be really successful. I also believe that home will be very successful and help improve ps3 sales. I do think though that wii will be crippled over time from not having great graphics, lack of playing dvd's, hi-def movies,  music, and lack of power hardware. If online isn't that great, this will also cripple them.

I never knew about a system  in the next generation that didn't improve the graphics significantly, like nintendo just did. I think that wii will have more or less a 3 year life span. While ps3 and xbox 360 will have a 5 or 6 year life span.

I don't care if you disregard my opinion and call me a fanboy. I really don't care which console will win. I own all 3 :). I am just viewing my opinion about what will happen.

Here is what I believe will happen in the next 6 years

End of 2007-

1.Wii

2.Xbox 360

3. PS3

End of 2008-

1.Wii

2.PS3

3.Xbox 360

End of 2009-

1.Wii

2.PS3

3.Xbox 360

End of 2010

1.PS3

2.Wii

3.xbox 360

End of 2011

1.Ps3

2.Wii

3.Xbox 360

This 500k as a break-even point for  PS3 games is too high... In an interview for IGN Namco stuff claimed that costs of game developing for X360 and PS3 are on the same level. 250k for PS2 or PSP qualifies to a platinum (or greatest hit) status - they lower price etc. I think it means something. Considering higher price I think situation with next-gen looks pretty similar. Obviously the biggest guns like MGS4, Heavenly Sword, Lair or FFXIII cost a lot and break-even point will be set much higher than 500k but don't assume that games like Motorstorm or Gundam (!) are still in the red.

Instead of Halo, Gran Turismo and GTA, Nintendo has Metroid Prime, Mario Kart and Super Mario. And GTA is coming for Wii, if i recall. I agree that GC titles were bouhgt by people of certain fanbase, but it's the same thing with the PS3s games. Hus: it doesn't matter is the game first party or not. If you are thinking that 1st party should be counted out, then you should count out all the exclusives. And then you could compare how multiplatform games sold on each platform. nqq12345: high price and lack of games will not be fixed unless it starts to sell better with high price and lack of games.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

Over 1/4th of the owners of PS3 bought Gundam Musou.  That's not too bad.  Also, it does matter that all the Gamecube games were first party because 3rd parties want to make money.  Looks like all the PS3 games selling great in Japan are 3rd party.

Resistance is not a killer app in Japan because it's a FPS.

Comparing these 2 random console launches doesn't really say much.  Gamecube had a great launch lineup but ended up 3rd.  PS3 could have a bad launch lineup and end up 1st or 2nd.  Why not compare to the xbox or xbox 360 or the PS2?  Why just 1 console?  Let's compare them all.  Is there some kind of trend to the data?  So far, no.

Yes. The fanbase for ps3 is small, and is mostly hardcore gamers at this moment but, this should change over time, with a price drop. The ps3 is by far the most expensive console on the market, and has a 240% higher price then wii. bddbbddb:It can't sell with a high price and lack of games: this is evident. It will in matter time get some great games:lair, heavenly sword, mgs4, ratchet and clank , tekken 6, eight days, and uncharted: drake's adventure. Almost all of these games are system sellers. If the analysists are accurate, A price drop will occur in october which will further increase the sales. I know that Sony is taking huge debt for offering blu-ray, but lowering the price will further the sales of blu-ray and ps3. The ps3 will fail with this price, it is clearly evident from it having similar sales as xbox 360 for its first 6 months.

Yes, with more games and price drops, the PS3's sales will increase.  But the question is when those factors will happen.  6 months? 1 year?  2 years?  And how far ahead will the Wii (all 3 regions) and 360 (America only) be by then?  It's well into April now and the Wii is still selling out overall in all 3 regions.  The 360 is still selling comparatively well to the PS3 worldwide as well.

The longer it takes for the PS3 "Steam Train" to get going, the more damage it will take this generation, in both install base and 3rd party support.  Actually, in the last few months, the Wii's software exclusives have completely eclipsed the PS3 exclusives, and is now gaining ground on the 360's exclusive #'s.

Anyways, I'll go so far as to say the Wii may have the non-core gamer market all tied up for itself this generation, technically only being beaten by the DS. :) The core gamers, however, are still in free-for-all mode, and the Wii is looking to be a great 2nd console for most of them. :)

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.

what the point of this topic?

ps3 is doing fine, it costs ~500$ in japan.

GC cost twice less.

Well, ps3 will rock in second part of 2007.

Like begining with http://www.gamepro.com/screens/110429/108390-4-2.jpg :)

and well,

any other console didn`t have so many good titles in _first_ year of console life.
PS3 in _first_ year will get in 2007:

GTA4
AC
DMC4
(multiplatform - but still will be very good games)

MGS4 or FFXIII
KillZone2
HS
NGS
Lair
Uncharted
Ratchet
LBP
MotorStorm
VF5
Warhawk -- Folks soul

on PS2 all hits like MGS2, GT3, FFX, GTA3, DMC came only on _second_ year of console life.

The 360 doesn't appear to be doing well. I could see wii having around a 10 million lead over ps3 by ends year. But it seems that the xbox 360 lead will grow smaller and smaller. I expect at the end of the year, if mgs4 and tekken 6 stays exclusive, ps3 will be around 12 million. Also if the rumour is true that the ps3 will have a pricedrop in october, this will make me believe that there is a chance of ps3 selling more then xbox 360. I believe that the lowest ps3 could sell first year would be 8 million, and at most 14 million. I believe that xbox 360 will sell only 6 million, and wii will sell around 20 million by years end. I don't think that wii has the non-core gamer, I think that most of the wii's sold were between the ages of 8-20. I don't think they have anything, gamewise, that appeals to the racing fans, sports fan, etc. I own the wii, and yes I think it is cool. But I just don't see it winning due to it lacking so much.
