Forums - Sales Discussion - Fable 3 tops Halo reach; is UK's number 1!

We looked at our Raptr rankings today and noticed that Fable 3 clocked in at the top spot. Is Halo: Reach slipping or taking a temporary break?

For the month of October, Halo: Reach held the number one spot on video game social ranking system, Raptr, with World of Warcraft sitting in second. In the last week, however, Fable 3 shot up to #1, pushing Halo: Reach down to #3 and leaving WoW where it is on the list. Other rankings sites such as GameFly's Top 10 also chart Fable 3 at the top of their "hottest games" lists, trumping Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 and even Call of Duty: Black Ops in popularity.

The question is whether or not Fable 3's spike is a temporary trend. Sure, the role-playing game features a cooperative multiplayer mode, but Halo: Reach's staying power is in competitive multiplayer. That's how Reach managed to knock Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 out of its 10-month long streak as the most-played game by Raptr rankings -- according to the site, it "stole" more than 50 percent of MW2's playtime on Xbox Live. Unless Fable 3 gives up its spot before Black Ops hits shelves next week, it looks like Reach won't get a chance to break MW2's 10-month record.

Official Xbox Live rankings from Microsoft's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb for the week relevant to Fable 3 are forthcoming. Read up on our Fable 3 review, our Halo: Reach review, and our Force Unleashed 2 review.

spite of receiving, not so raving reviews, it seems this hasn't halted Fable 3's rise to the top of the gaming charts as it has now made number one in it's first week.

Fable 3 revolves around two siblings (the offspring of the previous Albion hero) the older brother plays the tyrant who reigns over Albion with oppression and intolerance while the younger sibling begins a long journey to lead a revolution and depose the brother as king and take his place.

Unfortunately its not so good news for other newly released games. One of them being Rock Band 3. Released at the same time, never even reached the top 20 in spite of good reviews across the board, with Fifa 11 and Fallout: New Vegas taking places, second and third respectively.

We've given you a round-up of the top 10 games currently on sale.

1. Fable III (Microsoft)

2. FIFA 11 (EA Sports)

3. Fallout: New Vegas (Bethesda)

4. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft)

5. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II (LucasArts)

6. Medal of Honor (EA Games)

7. WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2011 (THQ)

8. Professor Layton and the Lost Future (Nintendo)

9. The Sims 3 (EA Games)

10. Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 (Konami)

Are you surprised with Fable 3's rise to the top spot? You wishing Rock Band 3 did better? Let us know what you think.

this means fable 3 probably sold 200,000 in the Uk alone. 450k first full week in europe

Halo Reach is slipping a lot so that is half the reason right there....seriously the game is lucky to break 200k at any given time (even weekends)

And the fact that Fable 3 is completely beast

Fable 3 is indeed a beast, but its not the type of game that will stay on the charts for long. When people are done with it they are done.

Halo Reach will stay on the charts for a long time and it still gets over a million unique players a day.

I find it more impressive that WoW is still up there in 2nd place, ahead of Reach, Fallout, CoD... FIFA.

Awesome stuff!

Imagine the play time put into it when Cataclysm releases!

Well it probably racks up a ton of hours just from people being idle.

I think Blizzard should put up some stats about WOW cause i'm fairly certain those stats would rape every other game ever made.  Maybe the amount of man-hours spent playing WOW is so large that Blizzard would have to create a new number just reveal those numbers

wait, what is this? Is it only based on people who sign up to raptr?

I think the number and statistics are so big that they afraid they could atract unhealthy attention from politicians

Reach will start keeping up on sales as Holidays approach... Fable  «3 is new thats why its on Top... when Reach came out it had 900K at a single time somedays... Nothing like Mw2 but Mw2 is a easier game and appeals to more people than Reach does...
