Forums - Sales Discussion - Kinect Cameras Ship 14 Million Units

*sigh*

You know, this story DIDN'T come from MS, but I'm still annoyed by it playing it fast and loose with the facts ...

Around the Network

It is no where near as accurate or responsive as move!

EDIT: This post has been moderated. -d1

That's an impressive number, even if it "only" translates into 4 and a bit million and that is just for 2010, M$ are expecting big things

Your right, I was wandering why no one question a website ridden by adds that doesnt even mention their sources.

"the sources indicated."

I'm having a hard time believing this...even if it means 7 million KINECTS (2 cameras per KINECT)

14 million , 7 million W/E it is, that is F$%king HUGE!

refresh my memory, how many copies of ET are buried in the desert?

there may not be room left..

Amazing numbers!!! This holidays will be very interesting indeed! Bring it on!

Nintendo are getting their way then, motion controls will be the standard interface by the end of 2011 it seems. I still feel Kinect is a beta for the true version that'll launch with the next Microsoft system due largely to its reported accuracy, the software support and the marketing of the device.

If all goes well for Microsoft then Back to the Future got it right .. 2015: "You have to use your hands? That's like a baby's toy!"

Well Microsoft exec's stated that Kinect is expected to sell as well as Wii did at launch. If they are expecting that level of success 4-7 million units at launch is not unreasonable especially since they are trying to take advantage of the Christmas rush. They could (If the launch goes as planned) sell out all 7 million units this holiday season. Keep in mind Microsoft is launching a 500-million dollar ad campaign to accompany the Kinect launch.

This is Microsoft's biggest gamble ever on par if not more of a gamble then the origional X-Box was. If Kinect under performs and doesn't sell as predicted (on Wii's level) and fails to sell out all of the manufactured units Microsoft could be in trouble. If the device sells only like 2-million units this Christmas Microsoft better hope the thing has legs.

I agree with Puffy I think Kinect is just a dry run for what Microsoft has planned with its next console. They are throwing alot of money at Kinect to try and take out the competition. Even if Kinect fails Microsoft will use the momentum for their next console. Also Kinect will probubly come to PC soon after 360, theirs no way Microsoft would risk a billion or so dollars if they didn't expect to use it in the long run.

What suprises me is Michael Pachter who is usually doom and gloom for Nintendo, expects the Wii to be the hottest selling games console this winter. Dangit Michael your never right which means Kinect will topple Nintendo this holiday season (Hopes Pachter's right for once). I wonder what Pachter knows that the rest of us don't?
