Forums - Sales Discussion - Sports Champions scores second spot on UK all formats chart.

Late last night, we were deliberating PlayStation Move sales. We knew we were due a weekly UK sales report from Chart-Track this morning, and we were mulling over what would be a decent showing from the PlayStation Move’s first must-have title, Sports Champions.

We’ve always expected Move’s launch window to be slow. Unlike Microsoft’s Kinect, we anticipate the PlayStation Move will be a slow-burn thing. Even so, we expected Sports Champions to debut around the tenth place spot on the UK All Formats Chart.

The game’s far and beyond exceeded our expectations however, debuting at number two. That’s an outstanding achievement, and perhaps an early indication of how Move hardware is shifting too.

Other Move software failed to make quite the same splash; Start The Party debuted in the 29th spot and Ubisoft’s Racket Sports climbed to 32nd. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, which received a Move update this week, saw sales increase by a whopping 41 per cent this week, however.

So, a solid start for Sony. Hopefully we get some hardware numbers soon.

1. Halo Reach (Microsoft)
2. Sports Champions (Sony)
3. Mafia II (2K Games)
4. Toy Story 3 (Disney)
5. Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (Ubisoft)
6. HAWX 2 (Ubisoft)
7. Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days (Square Enix)
8. Just Dance (Ubisoft)
9. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 (EA)
10. Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar)

No hard numbers yet but still nice to see.

decent start

Hmm being beetween Mafia II and Reach leaves us a huge range of possible results.

Was going to say 'wow' but then realised that it's only beaten Mafia 2.

Still, this is pleasing to see. Hope I can say 'wow' when VGC comes through with European software.

Reach sold 430k on UK (by ioi post).

Mafia II sold 75k combined last week over EMEAA.

So Sports Champions between 50k and 400k for UK.

But over 100k for EMEAA is almost certain.

Its a brilliant result, especially considering its competing with Halo.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

So, good start for Move! Looks like it'll be successful after all, I will pick up one too.

Let's wait for accurate numbers.

not really...when you look at what else its competing with.  all we can determine is that its not a complete flop.   it could have good sales or it might have poor sales.
