Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Which game will be this year's surprise holiday hit Wii game?

It  seems that every year there is at least one game for the Wii that comes out of nowhere  during the holidays to become a big hit game (Just Dance, Nerf n Strike, Cabela's Hunt etc.).

I realize the irony in asking people to predict a surprise, but still I think it is fun to speculate.

Looking at the line up I think the big game is going to be Karaoke Revolution: Glee. Glee is huge right now in NA at least, and the game will be coming out soon after the new season starts which should help. A couple of commercials during the show and I think this game could be a hit.

I'm not talking about sequels to previous surprise hits (Just Dance 2, New Carnival Games, EA Sports Active, Cabela, etc.), or something like Epic Mickey or the big Nintendo tiltes that have high expectations. It can be a sequel or part of a franchise if you expect the game to far exceed previous entries in the franchise.

So after looking at a release schedule what 1 or 2 games do you think could be a surprise hit this holiday?

I'm sure this will be another good year for side-scrollers like Kirby and DK, but Epic Mickey is showing some promise with a good amount of pre-orders already. Black Ops is a guaranteed million seller as well. For "surprise hits", I have a couple ideas.

-Michael Jackson Experience could please just dance crowd and MJ fans alike

-UDraw with pictionary looks like it could be alot of fun, if only it had online play.

Probably something that offers people a new experience (possibly with a peripherial)

UDraw could be that thing, if it's marketed right, and is fun.   Not sold on it yet.

I'd say NHL Slapshot - could well be in Canada - despite whatever they score it, critics says it great fun - but hockey isn't big enough elsewhere to be a breakout hit.

Create has an outside chance, but I think the Wii version is gimped (online) which would stop it from reaching it's potential.

Really I think Wii Party will be the BIG breakout game this year with that crowd.

Whatever else ends up being big, will be interesting to see.

Umm cant think of anything other than U draw. And maybe that game Wee Waa (yes u heard here first!! ), might appeal to the younger generation, and from what i've seen it seems fun, they just have to market it right.

But i think the big game this year will be just dance 2, i think it will explode this year, and add to sales of last year, especially since i expect a much bigger launch and a better holiday streak, it seems it will do just that.

But since u mentioned that just dance wont count, i'll go with Wee Waa, i think it has good potential. Here's a link: http://www.youtube.com/gaia_link?action_show_gaia_interstitial_link=1&feature=flinkla&next=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kp6jVGgPbMo

Edit: I'll add sonic colors. I expect big sales for it. not the usual 1-1.5 million

NBA Jam won't certainly be, rofl.

I'd say Black Ops will perform better than expected.

And Wii party will outsell Halo Reach, Kilzzone 3, or whatever the competition pulls off. It's party, and has "Wii" in the title. Nothing can compete with that.

My money's on Guilty Party to be the underdog overachiever. It seems really well put together, despite how its flown under the radar so far.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Trackmania, gotta love those arcady time trials.

"¡Viva la Ñ!"

UDraw - It has a good chance. It's unique, it seems fun, and THQ sounds like they may actually market it.

FlingSmash - This game is basically a combination of New Super Mario Bros, Wii Sports Tennis, and Pinball. It could have bridge game potential because the controls are very simple, but the depth is still there.

EA Sports NFL Training Camp - It seems like there has been many fitness games targeted for women but not many for men, and this game may fill that gap. Is there a market for that?

Babysitting Mama/Weewaa - These games come with plush dolls that can ingest the Wii Remote. Players then use the doll to control the game. Including a doll is a brilliant idea that will make the product stand out on the shelves.

Ugh.

That line-up makes me weep.

The only thing I'll be getting is Kirby for the Wii and Golden Sun for the DS.

...

Hey, that gives me more time with Fallout: New Vegas!!  Yay!

Kirby will be awesome. But why not Donkey Kong Country? No love for monkeys? Just curious.
