Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Who believes Wii's successor will have better third party support?

With the recent strategy Nintendo has taken with the 3DS, the question is, will the successor to Wii have similar 3rd party support?  I hope so, for the Wii seems to be on its last legs, particularly in Japan (some even say that 2011 will be its last year).  If they can attract the same business strategy with the Wii2 as they did with 3DS, then hopefully we'll see a legimimate MGS, KH, FF, DQ, etc., all those other "hardcore" franchises that jumped ship recently (DQ excluded, since Nintendo still has it).

The failure of 3rd party success on the Wii is "mostly" their own fault. 3rd parties pretty much dug their own grave by releasing enormous amounts of shovelware, which in turn caused their games that had actual quality to be quite unsucessful.

I think the next Big N home console will have more middle ground in an attempt to not only keep their casual gaming audience, but to steal more consumers away from M$ and Sony.

I think the next Nintendo console will have 3rd party support if it has a good online service. I hope the next Nintendo console has Blu-ray as well.

Like the other intelligent people have said, if Nintendo plays their cards right for their next home console a la 3DS, the smart 3rd party developers will back up the console with excellent support.

No, it was that the shovelware to major game ratio wasn't like with the PS1, PS2, or even DS.

So it wasn't simply that there is those kinds of games, it's that their other games are too few.

Plus even most of the quality games do well. The disappointments get a lot more attention from the gaming press, as a way to discredit the Wii.

You don't see any HD flop used as justification not to support the PS3 or 360. That's not because their games magically sell better. It's because the developers ACTUALLY MAKE the games that sell well and offset the lesser selling games.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

The problem with console development is that developers are locked into a "port everything" mentality there. If Nintendo's in the porting loop, they'll succeed, if not, i would bet against it

Though Nintendo might set the porting standard depending on when they launch, so it depends.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

^^ This

I really dont know how most people don't realise it.

In my opinion Twilight Princess is better than Ocarina of t... * gets shot *

They could have a much better 3rd party support than they have now, but I think they need to do something really special (like with the 3DS on the handheld market) or releasing their console earlier than MS and Sony and have at least almost equal graphical power.

What I highly doubt is that they will have a better 3rd party support than Sony or MS, simply because game developement is much more expensive than in the past and it will be even more expensive in the future. So I think 3rd parties will always try to release their games on all platforms. We have already seen it this gen. Exclusive deals are possible of course (would be considered 2nd party then) but especially Nintendo is not a company that does that often.

2012 - Top 3 [so far]

                                                                             #1                                       #2                                      #3

Of course I do. I think its quite reasonable to expect that all the major third parties will consider putting all the major third party I.P. both old and new on the next generation Wii console. If they behaviour surrounding the 3DS is any indication then as long as the console does well it ought to have the mainline franchises from Japan and elsewhere including such games as Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid etc.

Everyone seems to be acting like no third-party support = tons of shovelware. It wont go away, it will just go on to what is popular. You think that the DS would have been flooded with all the Imagine games if animal crossing didn't sell well? Same thing for all those petz simulator clones if nintendogs didn't capture the eye of the market. Shovelware will always exsist. This weeks game is

There will always be shovelware. It's just up to you (the consumer) not to buy it.
