well I can't really talk about the specifics in my job because i could basically get in some huge trouble because there's been a lockdown on us at Gamestop since we leaked the Black Wii coming to America and Assassins Creed Brotherhood and all that but I have talked to all the store managers in a LARGE area (roughly 16 stores) and I know we are sold threw on Pre-Orders for the system for the next two shipments, In other words in our district people aren't even aloud to pre-order the system anymore because we can't come close to meeting demand and can't promise them when they can get a system because our next two Shipments are already completly sold out and they haven't even hit the retail floor yet. 


any thoughts on the new customers vs. replacement 360s ratio.  i just really don't get why this level of demand for a redesign.  if we take the baseline sales of the 360 at 50k and assume that MS had enough supply to meet demand then the lauch of the 360 slim would have reached 317k just in america(a 634% increase) plus we apparently still haven't met demand.  the ps3 redesign only did  around 500k worldwide with a $100 price drop.  these number just seem too big to me.

I will tell you its very true that ALOT of these are selling to pre-existing owners.  We are seeing alot of people upgrading their old consoles to this newer model.  At the same time though we are seeing an increase in new buyers as well since the launch of the 360s.  I would say if I had to put a number on it I would say 60% prior owners and 40% new buyers.  Also to be honest with you these numbers look small honestly compared to what I think it should be doing.  We litteraly haven't seen demand for a console like this since the Wii launch and its first year on shelves.  I'm not exactly sure what has pushed momentum so hard but the 360 in America right now is king even over the Wii, our Kinect pre-orders are massive too which may have something to do this huge rise in hardware numbers, not sure though. 

even if only 40% of these sales are new buyers that still a ton of new owners.  if this is a pre-effect of kinect then maybe i understand cause vs. the previous model included wireless at the same price just doesn't seem to warrent this kind of increased demand.  however, if this is really post E3 kinect momentum then i have even less faith in americans.  it's almost like people want video games to suck balls.

Hey now, it's called Ultra Casuals.  Gaming is different for everyone.  The tag line for the phone calls at my local GameStops was "Thank you for calling GameStop where you can get your name down on Microsoft Kinect, how can I help you?" for the last few weeks.

It seems in the US at least that Kinect is pushing a lot more interest even at the rumored price of $150.

You need to remember 360 deals with hundreds of thousands of people pirating. And still yet it sells the most copies of a game vs the same game selling on a competitor's platform.

Edit: Look how long I haven't posted on this site.. It's still overrun with insecure Sony fanboys more than ever so I don't think I'll be returning, but I need to comment on my view as a Gamestop employee (next comment).

Okay, to the Gamestop guy posting, he's absolutely correct (back-ordered/not enough 360 S for demand, high Kinect pre-orders DESPITE no advertisment yet, launching in November, and high pricepoint according to teh internetz). All the Gamestops in my district are the same exact way. Dozens of people come in every single day asking for the slim and we have to say that they need to wait around 2-3 weeks until we have them in stock.

Yesterday we got 1/3rd of the preorder slims and I had to go down the list and call everyone to pick it up as you only have a 48 hour period to do so. One guy rushed from New Jersey because he's been having withdrawals without his 360 for 3 weeks, lol. Also almost every retailer/site is backordered, so I expect even bigger 360 numbers in America in the coming weeks. I can't speak for Walmart though, as there is none in NYC.

Not to mention the damn thing isn't even out in Europe, and this is the dry season (Summer); imagine what this is going to do in the holiday season, ESPECIALLY combined with Reach and Kinect. People, specifically fanboys it seems, seem to underestimate Kinect and the casual/female crowd, and anyone who works at a Gamestop will tell you that. Hell, ever since we got that new Kinect commercial showing on our TV at the store, people see it and automatically pre-order, or hound you with questions. Move, on the other hand, we have advertisement for (since it comes out 2 months earlier), and it's extremely less popular. Maybe it's because Sony is trying to target the "hardcore" crowd, which doesn't give two shits about motion control (my experience IRL), or maybe it's because it costs you $210 without tax to utilize Move for 2 players, not counting accessories/peripherals if you want them. Maybe it's because it's so very close to resembling a wiimote/nunchuck; I don't know. I don't care for motion controls myself, but my manager, girlfriend and some of my friends are dying to play Dance Central.

But let me not go off-topic here. All those begrudged people posting "don't worry, the numbers will go back to normal" since the first week the slim released couldn't be more wrong. I also expect bigger America numbers in the next 2 weeks (whatever week it becomes stocked at retailers).

It happened from 11-2005 all the way to 11-2006 I think. So we have already a full year of X360 dominance. Cool eh?
