Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Greenberg: Milo is a tech demo, not planned for release

http://www.vg247.com/2010/06/29/microsofts-greenberg-milo-is-a-tech-demo-no-plans-to-release-it

Milo’s always been one of the more interesting demonstrations of Kinect’s potential; apparently, that’s all it will ever be.

Speaking on ABC TV’s Good Game, Xbox boss Aaron Greenberg said Peter Molyneux’s mildly creepy virtual son probably won’t ever come out to play.

“Milo; he’s safe and sound back in England. No… the Milo Project is something that Lionhead Studios in their labs had developed. Last year we unveiled the Project Natal technology, we showed a bunch of technology demos as part of that,” he explained.

“And obviously [Milo] is a technology demo that continues to exist, but right now it’s not a game that we’re planning to bring to market.”

Molyneux told VG247 that we’ll be seeing more of Milo and his gal pal Kate next month. From the sound of things, though, we’ll only be seeing – not touching (or flailing in the general direction of, as it were).

Oh, come on! Well, we still have Child of Eden...

Okay, probably not, but I'm starved for enticing Kinect content, give me a break.

Milo is a lie, Kinect is just a dancing/fitness simulator that will sell well to casual gamers, the Milo Sci-fi thing is just a myth started by hyping god Peter Molyneux.

Pity, it was a concept I was interested in - not so much Milo & Kate as such but the idea of a Myst type adventure where you could converse with characters and solve puzzles via Kinect supported direct input.

I see the big M is lecturing soon with M&K to get a re-reveal - wonder how that fits with this announcement?

Sounds like MS really are going to focus on a set of titles around play/fun they think will resonate with what they obviously see as the Wii demographic.

Pity - my main interest in Kinect was as an interface and to support something more innovative than those types of games.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

so it was fake after all..

Currently playing: MAG, Heavy Rain, Infamous

Getting Plat trophies for: Heavy Rain, Infamous, RE5,  Burnout and GOW collection once I get it.

Obviously... pepole can't understand that even if the game can translate into itself everything you're going to say, creating a real AI that completely simulates human behavior is impossible, as long as game codes can't recode themselves.

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

no not necessarily, look tbh i am surprised it was that close to begin with. I reckon it was stopped because it was very odd. Very close to the paedophelia type things for old men. MS was probably tapped on the shoulder about it.

And they have already announced that hardcore games will be coming, casual will be first because they are easier to make i presume, but i think its also so people get used to the tech i reckon.

Bet with Conegamer and Doobie_wop

Dont people see Milo all over Kinectimals?  Surely some of the concepts for Milo were used in Kinectimals.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Most of this scripted "tech demo" would never be possible with the real product anyway.

Unless you actually believed that Microsoft had simultaneously achieved breakthroughs in the fields of speech recognition, speech synthesis and AI... while working within a video games context.
