Forums - Sony Discussion - This statement worries me.

Yeah, Sony has no heavy hitters on the level of Halo and Mario, except for Gran Turismo, which will likely end up outselling both.

Considering how PS3 is barely outselling Halo 3 as it is, I somehow doubt Gran Turismo is just going to end up selling to about 90-100% of the userbase to make up for this.

i dont get it... what console are we trying to compare the ps3 to? ps2? 360? i dont know if its possible for a console to sell as good as another one which is half the price. the fact is the ps3 is tracking roughly the same line as the 360, and its doing it at a higher price point. also from what i can see the ps3 isnt doing horrible in any region. if your comparing it to the wii then thats just silly, they are designed for different people, if your honestly trying to compare it to the 360 remember that the 360 is 2 years old not 1...

well i guess i'm just the stupid one for not understanding the rest of you.

Hey at least blu ray is winning.

Actually, Sony said that they're in a stalemate with HD-DVD.  That's what I assumed this thread was about.  Sony then said they wished they didn't do Blu Ray seperately from HD-DVD.

First off, compared to the PS2 the PS3 has sold awful in Europe and is a disaster in Japan ...

Relax already. The PS3 is crushing the 360 in Europe and Japan, and its launch numbers actually aren't so far off from the original launch of the PS2, despite the PS3's far higher price tag. The $399/399EUR version is selling well, and the price will drop  to $299/299EUR sometime in 2008 - just in time to offset the decline in PS2 sales. Sony is executing its game-plan with astonishing precision.

Ouch ....loosing mgs4, some people put so much hope in that game.... o well

I hate how this has turned into a "ms fanboy thread"

Anyways i just think ms should give up on japan and set their sights where people actually want them, which is america and europe.

Why should Microsoft give up on Japan? It doesn't cost them that much more. They are paving the way for the future. Just like how Sony expanded into the handheld market. When they release their next handheld, they will have a market to build from. Microsoft are behind Sony 3:1 in consoles in Japan and behind 3:2 in software. Not bad for a company that previously had virtually no market share in Japan. If they release some good RPGs and show they have a long life, the next console they release will be picked up faster.

There is A LOT floating around about MGS4's exclusivity.

2005:

2006:
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/17/heightened-rumor-metal-gear-solid-4-not-a-ps3-exclusive/

Now unless I see Sony handing over a bag of money with a contract that says "Only for PS3, Kojima... Only for PS3" then I don't see what's stopping Hideo from going multi-plat.

FF13 is exclusive to PS3, I believe.. No rumors.

Understanding is the key.

Are we now using the logic, that PS3 sells as good as PS2 at a similar timeframe, when PS2 was out in Japan only and PS3 WW? Actually, PS3 isn't that much more expensive than what PS2 was at launch. I don't recall the few pricecuts and new SKU:s for the PS2 in it's first year. Even that the PS3 would be "crushing" 360 in PAL/Japan sales, they sell 1:1 WW. And besides, it's not about race between 360 and PS3, there also 3rd party involved, which don't even compete with the two, but still eats their sales. @Topic: If a PS3 game goes multiplatform, the PS3 owners don't lose anything. The 360 owners gain something. It's like going from win/lose to win/win. Although, the one who loses something is Sony. It could be that MGS4 turns out to be a timed exclusive, or maybe not. The Sony rep propably just means games in general, not some specific title.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

About PS3: I wouldn´t worry here. Metal Gear and Final Fantasy will - if not completely exclusive - at least be timed exclusives and a huge reason to buy a PS3, as Gran Turismo will, no doubt. Still, expect those games to sell worse than their PSX and PS2 counterparts.

Remember Nintendo: Super Mario World sold 20 million copies, Mario 64 sold 11 million and Sunshine sold 6 million because the last two games were released on less popular platforms. New Super Mario Bros. on the other hand sold more than 10 million copies already because of the popular DS, and Mario Galaxy US sales are amazing. The same will happen with PS3 games, they will sell less than their PS2 brothers.

About Xbox 360 in Japan: Take a look at the sales charts, the Xbox 360 sells 5-6k units each week... we are long out of the 2-3k mark. Some people just don´t notice this little point. And more games are coming. Microsoft is struggling there but their struggle is slowly doing some good to them.

That's one of the best developed, most neutrally stated, factually backed-up (and, all said and done, completely solid) arguments I've ever seen on VGchartz.
