I just woke up mind you, so I typed this while I could still remember it. I actually had a dream about this (it was the 3DS commercial/trailer), and this is what I saw:
The 3DS was Cobalt blue in the commercial, and the graphics were indeed on a Gamecube 1.5 level. The 3DS looked like a minimal upgrade in the vein of DS Lite- DSi, and that’s where I hope the dream is wrong.
There were two games I saw, a 3D Mario game (like Galaxy). Mario was in a dark purple cave, which matched the color of the handheld. The top screen was much wider; it had a thin white border. It looked like an iPad meant to fill the top of a DS half. The spots where the speakers are on the top half where removed.
The font for the 3DS logo adhered to the Galaxy-type writing, but I’m guessing so it could go along with the commercial in my mind. There were two extra buttons (L and R I think, but it makes no sense) to the right of where the ABXY buttons on the DS are, but to the left of the Power button (right in between).
The second game was more complicated. First I thought it was a Flash game, and I think it might have been, because you kill viruses. Similar to how you press Ctrl on your computer, circles come up where you kill these viruses and there are 23 different sounds that can be chosen when you use these circles. However, in this commercial they mentioned something about Apple, which makes me think the 3DS has a serious operating system. However, if real viruses were so apt to show up on the 3DS, they wouldn’t advertise how sounds appear whenever it zaps a virus away (makes the console look like easy pirate prey).
So I think that Nintendo opening Flash up was not only for WiiWare, but for the 3DS as well. The design for the virus game above seemed like an app. One of several things I unfortunately did not see was price. I'm guessing with recent DSLite/DSi price drops coming, it will be $169.99
I was a little disappointed that it didn’t deviate too much from the DS Lite-DSi formula but I’m missing several things:
Shoulder buttons, whether it uses CD’s or cartidges, and what the BACK of the handheld looks like.
This thread may be considered useless to some, but I had to write what I saw haha. Here's a really rough picture:
