Forums - PC Discussion - DO NOT buy a laptop from ASUS.

Most of my friends got Asus laptops  and they never had any problem with them.

It's just you :3

So much misinformation in this thread.

Myth 1: Don't buy an asus.

Asus is a well known company for making high quality netbooks and notebooks. Their quality is consistantly rated the best amongst consumers on sites like newegg and amazon, and their EeePC netbooks are the standard for high end netbooks, despite their reasonable prices.

Myth 2: Acer brand sucks.

This is an old myth still propogated by those not up to date with the industry. Acer significantly upped their QC a few years ago, and they have since offered some of the best bargins in the business on high end and low end equipment. Their desktop systems are highly upgradable compared to competiting brands. Acer is now one of the top selling PC brands worldwide, and they are generally considered the best "bang for the buck." Their biggest complaint is often customer service.

Myth 3: Low end laptops/computers/ect always suck

False. Computers are comprised of parts, and software. These parts aren't somehow magically slid into place gentler on a high end Dell, compared to an entry model. If you get any PC, the parts and the software indicate the value, not the price. You can buy a 399 acer laptop and upgrade to 4 gigs of ram, and you basically have a 1299 "high end" brand laptop without all the bloatware. You would assume there is some place they would skimp out on you, but there usually aren't. Build quality across brands, especially asus, is often universal. There will be certain models that have issues, but they aren't necessarily "low end," entry level models.

The savy comsumer in fact, will often buy a low end model and upgrade it themselves, in order to get a better computer than the "high end" models, at a much cheaper price.

One strength of asus netbooks and laptops are their hardware versatility. It's very easy to upgrade the ram in these, and even to add battery life(another asus speciality).

OP, switch models, don't switch brands.

Interestingly enough, the television market actually does increase its QC, but not with price. QC increases with size, exponentially in most companies. This is due to the inherant potential for defects across bigger screens.

(removed my example here, because it is irrelivant to the conversation)

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

The only way a prebuilt is worth 1000 bucks, imo, is if you create the specs, and the company torture tests it for you before shipping, and guarntees it. Some people pay WAAAAY too much for mass produced units. I'm not saying build, but I am saying that you can buy a low end unit and upgrade it, and save yourself 500 dollars, and probably have a better machine in the bargin, if you're tech savvy.

This is the list of problems i have had with both laptops ive owned from them

ASUS G71 Purchased 9/17/09

On 10/24/09 The cooling Fan failed. RMA'd laptop to ASUS

Recieved Laptop on 11/07/09

On 11/29/09 Charging Mechanism on motherboard failed. RMA'd laptop to ASUS

Recieved laptop back on 12/12/09

12/12/09 I realized that my Laptop was not fixed. RMA'd laptop back to ASUS

Recieved Laptop back on 12/28/09

In order to fix this this problem ASUS replaced the Motherboard. In so doing they invalidated my Windows Vista Recovery Disk and i was unable to install my upgrade copy of Windows 7. So i ordered a full version of Windows 7 Ultimate on 2/16/10

6/09/10 DVD Drive Failed on this laptop. ASUS lied to me about my warranty being up so i took it to best buy who decided to replace my laptop with a BRAND NEW ASUS G73.

7/5/10 GPU failure. RMA'd laptop back to ASUS. They replaced the Motherboard and I Recieved Laptop back from them on 7/18/10

When will it end?

Lots of laptops are undercooled because of inadequate design, cheap thermal paste, and dust accumulation.  Mobile AMDs generate a lot of heat.  After my HP's GPU failed, I found out it was pretty much due to the same problem as RROD - the heat on the GPU eventually caused the solder to crack.  Luckily it was within warranty so I got it fixed, but the first thing I did after getting it back was to change the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU (GPU was using a thermal pad, replaced with a copper shim) and undervolted.  Now I am getting temperatures about 5-10 degrees cooler than what I was getting before.  Hopefully that will be the end of it.

ASUS , along with Toshiba, are the best laptop makers. Their products are always reliable, and have good prices.

You were probably one of the unlucky few that had such a problem with an ASUS laptop.

I dont know,  my Asus G51JX says i shouldnt listen to you

I bought an ASUS K60 from Best Buy back in February and I haven't had any problems with it as of the present day.  I have the extended warranty and so if something does happen I will take it back immediately.  However, like I stated, no problems with it :).

My ASUS Laptop broke after 2 1/2 years of use... strangly my 2001 Sony VAIO still works fine... (at least after I repaired it twice because a certain somebody (*cough* me) let it drop on the floor) but one of the 2 USB Ports broke in 2007
