Lots of laptops are undercooled because of inadequate design, cheap thermal paste, and dust accumulation.  Mobile AMDs generate a lot of heat.  After my HP's GPU failed, I found out it was pretty much due to the same problem as RROD - the heat on the GPU eventually caused the solder to crack.  Luckily it was within warranty so I got it fixed, but the first thing I did after getting it back was to change the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU (GPU was using a thermal pad, replaced with a copper shim) and undervolted.  Now I am getting temperatures about 5-10 degrees cooler than what I was getting before.  Hopefully that will be the end of it.
