Zelda Wii trying to match MH3 graphics

Total:0

I admit to understanding very little about game programing relative to some people on this forum. However, from what I do understand, the TEV on Nintendo systems is very different from how textures work on a traditional GPU setup. Thus, very few people take advantage of it (this includes Capcom). In a technical sense, I don't think there'll be anyone outside of Factor 5 who can challenge Nintendo on one of their own consoles.

Thus, I definitely agree the comment was more related to the art design than anything else. The artwork for MH3 is fantastic.

Hopefully Zelda Wii takes the route that Wind Waker took. Not in the sense of it looking the same as wind waker, but being as aware of its console limitations and focusing more on art style rather than photo realistic graphics.

The best looking games always do that, look at Uncharted 2, its not photo realistic, its realism with artistic flare to it and made it one of the best looking games on the PS3 if not the best looking period.

:D I agree, Uncharted 2 has an amazing art direction. Great looking games with photo realistic graphics only last one generation, when the next comes around the older will look dated; which is why art style is so important. I do feel that uncharted 2 will remain as an artistic achievement for a very long time, unlike Call of Duty games that will get lost in the past.

Also... by looking at the Zelda Wii concept art that was given out at last years E3, I do get a strong 'pastel style' vibe from it ^_^ (just a thought) .

yeah, i hope they stick to that style, maybe be make it a bit more artisitic/pastel-ish, i loved Pronce of Persia 08's style SO much, i hope they take a similar route, with things kinda realistic, but with vibrant and colorful worlds and characters :)

Maybe it's something I like personally about TP's visuals then.

MH3 has similar problems to Xenoblade. Taken as a whole, things look great, but the detail works to create large environments and large things. Barroth looks great, Lagiacrus looks great. Your character? not so much. The detail on armor is good, but characters' features are often obscured.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

But monster hunter 3 isn't exactly a graphic monster...
zelda wii will be beautiful, forget about rumours and stuff, wait to see it in motion

Not really sure about you but I know there are some teams over at Capcom that know how to take advantage of the Wii/GC hardware, Factor 5 I feel was trumped by RE4 which is why Nintendo contracted that team to help out with Twilight Princess, which is why if you play TP it has a very similar style of texture work to that of RE4, plus the lighting which was pretty awesome in RE4 and TP.

As for MH3 it's a different Capcom team that went for a different direction, they took advantage of some features but things like the lighting I mentioned they left out, on the other hand they did really well with designing the scenery (even better than RE4) which like I said I believe that is what Nintendo wants to out do them on.

:D Yeah, I think Zelda Wii would look amazing with this sort of style.

^^ omg, that'd be so cool!!

On a purely technical level MH3 is quite poor compared to something like Twilight Princess and almost absurd when you think that it's pushing Zelda Wii, but when you think about it Nintendo has always been about the art and design, no matter the console their games try to look good and its not always with how much juice you can get out of the system and from an artistic standpoint MH3 has some of the best designed enviornments in any game this gen, it really gives the feeling of being in nature, some of the scenery looks amazing, but with the circle shadows and shadows that don't even react to light (even OoT had shadows that would react to light AKA Navi) you know MH3 isn't going to be pushing technical levels.

Come on, Monster Hunter Tri's not that bad technically. Yes, it had blob shadows, but the textures, animations and poly-counts are far superior to Twilight Princess.

TP had some pretty ugly environmental textures, and Link's running animation was very robotic. MH3 beats it handily it everything sans lighting/shadowing.

I hope Zelda Wii looks a whole step better again.

Oh shit, I forgot about RE4.  My whole argument is invalid now.
