I started with FFVII about 10 years ago, as did pretty much everyone I know. I'd recommend you start there as that is when most people did, albeit I've no idea how well it'd hold up nowadays, the graphics won't blow you away like they did me :P.

For me anything before FFVI (6) the mechanics of battles / leveling up is too dated and hasn't got enough depth. No idea if that'd bother someone new to FF though, but yeah, start with VII :).

Start with FFIV and make your way up. You'll finish them all by the time vsXIII releases.

DS Games Now Playing: Dragon Quest VI  DS Games unopened Knights in the Nightmare, Etrian Odyssey III, Okamiden, Dragon Quest IX Last DS Game I beat: Radiant Historia

Wii Games Now Playing  Super Mario Galaxy 2, Arc Rise Fantasia  Wii  Games unopened  Little King's Story, Sonic Colors, Silent Hill Shattered Memories Last Wii Game I beat: Sin & Punishment 2

You can get Final Fantasy Origins and Anthology for Final Fantasy I, II, V and VI. There is another collection thas has Final Fantasy IV too. They are all for the PS1, and the PS2 can run PS1 games, so.

Above: still the best game of the year.

Well, I know two newcomers to the FF series from class, and they both loved XIII.
Personally, I don't think it's above many of the other FF games, but it depends on how willing you're to play PS1 graphics on a large LCD screen (assuming that's what you play on, or similar).

I started with FF7 all those moons ago but its pretty dated now after playing the PSN version. In fact FF8 hasn't aged badly in comparison & I actually enjoyed FF8 more whereas in the past I was firm FF8 was much worse than FF7.

I'd say start off with FFXIII, I know several newcomers to the series in our school who got it & loved it. I have heard similar things elsewhere. Its also my 2nd favourite behind FF6.

Also remember every FF is different so if you don't like one that doesn't mean you'll hate another one, this thread must have shown you how different FF fans tastes are. After FFXIII I'd say get FF8.....they will both be different experienced for you. By then FF9 should be out on PSN & of course you can get FF7 too.

FF4, FF6 (The best RPG EVER) & FF10 aren't to be missed, so try to play them in some way eventually.

They are all amazing games!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Start with any of them. They are all damn good in their own way.

Wait for FFIX to come out.

?

He means on the PSN.

Well yes. The man can't play PS2 FFs,  Boutros. He says it in the OP.

?

You are confusing me.

Isn't FFIX a PS1 game? He can play PS1 games on his PS3 no?

Yes FFIX is a psone game and it is coming to psn but you can also buy it new from Amazon.
