Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony: We have code that makes PSP games unhackable for 60 days

lol, pirates will have it hacked in a week. Never underestimate the resolve of thousands of the greedy and entitled.

I don't get pirates. What does a PSP game cost? $40? That's only 5 hours of work at a McDonald's. That's only 5 hours out of an 80 hour paycheck. Can't use "We have too many other responsibilities to pay for games. I have a home and kids to pay for blah blah blah". 80 hour paycheck at $8/hr is $640 before taxes. Can't spare $40? Wtf? I spent $35 at the bar a few days ago...and I'm a broke college student....

I wouldn't underestimate them that much... On PSP, any firmware above 5.03 is unhackable on a PSP with TA-088v3 mother board or higher. SONY's had these on the market for over a year and [not so much for the firmware but 5.5's been out for months] they still aren't hackable. SONY's getting a lot better at this.

even if they doit in a week,it will m ake alot of difference as people who don't want to wait will be prompted to but unlike nowadays that you get the game on the net before or at the launch on the internet

I'll give this new "protection" a week before it's cracked again by hackers7pirates, they are after all quite a large number.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

you can spare $40 for one game but what happens when there are multiple games coming out.you go to buy all of them and then have $500 hole in your pocket and you have to compromise on other things you could have done with it.

people who pirate download multile games so they just don't buy it.

why do you think the PS3 didn't sell and why did the Wii sell so well, the price

most hardcore buy games but casuals jsut pirate, like if i would be getting all of MGS games for free.i wouldn't take it cause i love the KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS and their work for creating such a great franhises so iw ould like to pay for a great product but people who just don't follow and just buy anything that is 'cool' out there like casuals don't care

Wow, that's very convenient. No wonder piracy is big on PSP. Luckily it's not as easy to pirate X360 games. Not that easy on Wii either, right? I mean the Wii doesn't support memory stix rite?

ITS very easy to pirate 360 games.as easy as PS2,just download and write on disc

the problem with Wii is that Nintendo always uses a different format from the established ones.

SO there less writers for their format type and if they are costly so you run it like on PSP

The Wii is like PSP where the physical drive writers aren't available widely

Doesnt the Wii have DVDs?

BOTH the Wii and GAMECUBE opticle discs are very similar to DVD.Nintendo chose not to go with the DVD cause it was so widely used and eveybody had DVD-writers so it could have caused piracy so to protect their games they made a stightly different optical media disc so that common people can't just pirate their game,it was also done to avoid paying licensing fee to DVD consortium.

What are you talking about?

You can run pirate games on DVD on both Wii and GC. GC needs modchip, and Wii can play downloadable games trough modchip(like Wiikey) or firmware hack. In GC you need to make a mod on the case to fit a DVD5 and make multi-games DVDs, unless you are fine with min-DVDs(more expensive and only able to carry 1 game). In Wii you can play games trough DVD, SD or USB Drivers.

EVERY DVD writter can Burn a Wii or GC. But only a few DVD drivers can read the Wii Disc and make a .ISO out of it.

I think both the Wii and GC use essenttialy DVDs. The difference is in the format of compression and structure of the files .

...And geohots got code that could break it in under an hour!
